As you may have heard, the bike lanes on Mesa Drive are under attack by a small group of neighbors who want to put a handful of parking spaces ahead of safe places for kids to ride their bikes and walk to school. Join Northwest Hills residents to rally for bike lanes on Mesa Drive, and enjoy a short bike ride along the street.  RSVP at bikeaustin.org/mesafamily, and sign our petition at bikeaustin.org/mesa.

Member Appreciation Holiday Party
Tuesday, December 8 from 6:30-9:00pm at Hops & Grain Brewery
Thanks to the support of Bike Austin members this year, we ushered in new protected bike lanes on 51st Street, taught every CapMetro bus driver how to safely drive around bicyclists, lead over 500 group rides, expanded Austin b-Cycle and helped earn Austin a shiny new Gold Bicycle Friendly Community ranking. Now it's our turn to say Thanks! Because we can't pay you for all your incredible work, we'll provide the next best thing: Free Hops and Grain beer all night and great conversation with Austin's best bike advocates and educators. Members get in free.
Click here to Join Bike Austin then be sure to RSVP to the Holiday Party.

Survive Riverside Ride
Saturday, December 12 at 1pm at Midway Field House
Riverside Drive is one of Austin's most dangerous streets - at 6 lanes wide, it's an urban highway that divides our neighborhoods, hinders local businesses and takes a catastrophic toll on human life.  Join residents from Southeast Austin, Council Member Sabino "Pio" Renteria and Bike Austin for a ride on Riverside to call for badly-needed protected bike lanes and pedestrian safety improvements on the street. Bring your best extreme sports gear to highlight how dangerous the street is in it's current configuration. RSVP Here! Also, don't forget to Sign the petition.

COMMUNITY CORNER
Unsilent Night Bicycle Ride
Sunday, December 13 at 5:30pm at Texas State Capital
Unsilent Night is an original composition by Phil Kline, written specifically to be heard outdoors in the month of December. It takes the form of a street promenade in which the audience becomes the performer. Each participant gets one of four tracks of music in the form of a cassette, CD, or Mp3. Together all four tracks comprise Unsilent Night. The fact that the participants play different "parts" simultaneously helps create the special sound of the piece. Participants carry boomboxes, or anything that amplifies music, and simultaneously start playing the music. They then walk a carefully chosen route through their city's streets, creating a unique mobile sound sculpture which is different from every listener's perspective. Click here for more information
