Upcoming Improvements to the Kumon Reading Program |
|
Kumon has been working on improvements to the upper level Reading levels for several years, and this fall, it plans to unveil them. Current Levels G, H, and I will be discontinued, and replaced by Levels GI, GII, HI, HII, II, and III. The exact date of instituting this change has not yet been announced, but this is an exciting development which will add richness to our already outstanding Reading Program. More information will come as this revision approaches.

Revision of the Kumon Award System
|
Most of you are familiar with the current Kumon Awards system of honoring those who are six months, two years, and three years above grade level as the end of March, June, September, and December.
Starting November 2016, Kumon North America (KNA) will be adopting the Kumon International Standard (KIS), the awards system currently being used in all other countries in which Kumon is offered. We will instead have four award levels: Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum, and those award points will be determined as of February, May, August, and November. Due to this change, Kumon of Steeplechase and of Fairfield will be awarding trophies in July 2017 instead of May.
Finally, KNA is discontinuing the G by 5 award currently offered to those student commencing Level G before starting sixth grade. In its place will be a J by 6 award, consistent, again, with the Kumon awards system worldwide. This award is for those students starting Level J before completing sixth grade. KNA has not yet announced what the trophy for this achievement will be.

KUMON CURRICULUM
HELPFUL RESOURCES FOR FINE MOTOR SKILLS
The most common constraint for young learners in Kumon tends to be their fine motor skills. Happily, there are many fun tools to use to develop these skills. Following are several options from which to choose. Don't forget to enroll your preschooler with us while she is developing these skills! The earliest Kumon levels do not require pencil skills and thus can be worked in tandem with the parents' efforts using the following tools at home:
