October Guest Columnist/ Get Educated
Mortgage Rule Changes and 
Interest Rates - Eeeek!!


There has been a fair amount of press this summer regarding changes to mortgage lending rules aka TRID - TILA/RESPA Integrated Disclosure Rule and how that may impact residential lending (it will get harder won't it?).  The other popular discussion is interest rates (they have to go up soon don't they?).

Let us take these two hot items in their turn.  TRID reform - mostly a pain in the neck for your lenders.  As a borrower you are going to see some new forms replacing old forms.  The real issue is timing.  Most industry experts believe closing timelines will be extended 15-30 days to accommodate the new reforms.  Not a big deal from the borrower's chair, just means your closing is delayed a month or so.  You do not want to sit in my chair.

Interest rates - they have to go up do they not?  In truth the market priced in about 4/10 of a percent increase earlier this summer anticipated a regulated rate change that still has not materialized.  Most experts feel sure the Federal Reserve is going to raise their benchmark rate sometime before the year end but I am not certain that will dramatically impact mortgage interest rates.  

Were I a betting man, and I am not I am a banker, I would think rates will be in the same neighborhood for several moths perhaps longer.  So today if one can secure a 30 year fixed at 4.000%, and one can, then I expect rates within 0.250 - .0375% of this target right through the end of 2015.

Ozzie, our World Famous Eagle,
Dies of Injuries 


The photo above was taken just months ago by the Newspress when Ozzie was rehabilitated at C.R.O.W. and released into the wild.    After a recent altercation with another eagle, Ozzie returned again to C.R.O.W. where he died of his injuries.

Good News for Captiva Property Owners
For the third consecutive year, 
no tax increase from CEPD


No increase in taxes was the goal the Board set for itself during initial budget discussions that began in June. Board Chairman Jim Boyle said "We are very pleased that we have been able to keep the costs to operate the District at the same level as the two previous years.  This reflects our intent not to increase the tax burden on taxpayers."

hard work on this very important issue.

 Recipe of the Month

Grilled Marinated Portobello Mushrooms

The earthy smell and texture of mushrooms 
is a great way to celebrate the Fall season!



 
Marinade:
4 cups olive oil
1/4 cup minced garlic
1/4 cup minced shallots
1/3 cup balsamic vinegar
1 tbs tabasco
1 tbs chili powder
1 tbs garlic powder
1 tbs onion powder
1 tbs ground rosemary
1 tbs montreal steak seasoning
1 tps salt
1 tps black pepper
 
Mix all ingredients in bowl and whisk thoroughly.  ( Marinade will last for up to 30 days refrigerated). 

Dredge 10 portobello caps in marinade for 1 hour.  Strain portobellos and preserve marinade for another day.  Also used for meats and poultry but not preserved.

Grill Portobellos for 3-5 minutes , be careful as flare-ups tend to happen with oil in marinade.

At Traders we serve our grilled portobellos over a fresh spinach salad with a warm pancetta dressing.  Enjoy !!
