Romance is a great theme for June. Summer romance lends itself to "tying the knot" on the islands whether you are a Bride and Groom, renewing your vows or enjoying a 2nd honeymoon. Romance is also the excitement of celebrating family relationships with summer vacations, reunions and celebrating our hero, DAD! Maybe you are just ready to set sail into the new adventure of living the island lifestyle.

The Romantic World of New Moon Sailing
These two little islands have inspired many of us to look at our lives and make changes in the itinerary of our future. I came to Captiva and decided to stay no matter what. I experienced a change in my lifeline that took me in a direction I had not anticipated.
I have a sailing charter business at 'Tween Wat  ers Inn called New Moon Sailing. I teach sailing and help visitors experience the art of navigating the wind as well as the honor of performing weddings and the hunt for the elusive GREEN FLASH.
My 40 ft sloop has seen many sunsets with wedding couples on board looking for dolphin, manatees and the wildlife we so enjoy. When the sun gets low on the horizon and the multitude of colors start to appear and I get to say "Dearly Beloved" attitude changes into a complete awe of nature and an aura of compassion that just takes over everyone's feelings. Couples come from all over the world to include, not only the USA, but also Europe, Asia, Australia and even Canada were represented on board the NEW MOON. Flags and flowers, champagne and wine, dolphins and butterflies and doves (the doves made a big mess).
The weddings I provide are simple, affordable and uncomplicated  . Parties of six or less are welcome on board and you may bring anything you want to eat or drink. I have seen impromptu marriage proposals and wedding renewals of all ages.
Sailing lessons are quite popular with all ages. Kids from 8-80 are able to learn the art of sailing with a no pressure style of education. Practicing your skills is important but you won't forget the basics like tying knots and trimming sails. We can sail to other islands such as Cabbage Key or Cayo Costa for another variety of unforgettable adventure.

Rare Leatherback Turtle
Nests on Sanibel
SCCF discovered sea turtle tracks and a nesting site that were so large, they knew it could only belong to one species of sea turtle...a leatherback!
Leatherbacks are the largest species of sea turtle and they rarely nest on our beaches. Sanibel Island has only documented one other Leatherback nest
We are thrilled that this rare sea turtle chose our beach for her nest site. Check in with the Sanibel Captiva Conservation Foundation to follow it throughout incubation.

Sanibel Sea School Offers New Programs
for Youth and Teens
The Sanibel Sea School has two locations this year, with the Sundial Resort & Spa opening a small drop-in location for Sundial guests.
Learn to throw a cast net, which species of fish live in Gulf and bay waters, and how to ride a surfboard. Each week is centered on learning about a local sea creature, with related island skills, games, crafts, and water activities added to the mix.
"Ding" Darling Hosts Summer Camp
& Free Summer Programs 
Nature Explorers summer camp is designed to teach students about wildlife observation, wildlife photography, archery, fishing, kayaking and much more.
Other programs include crafts, films and trail exploring.
