Dear Valentine,

February is a wonderful month to share the LOVE of the islands!  Did you leave your heart in Sanibel/Captiva?

The Groundhog saw his shadow....6 more weeks of winter is predicted so we are waiting for you to follow your heart and come to the islands to thaw out, warm up and wind down.

After all, wouldn't you rather be shoveling sand instead of snow?

You can write your own love story of "living happily ever after" in your island dream home and we can help facilitate that dream.

Breaking news indicates home buyers need to move fast to spend less. Read the rest of the story in our Market Report section. Then call us today to find your place in the sun.  Due to the cold weather other places, our island market is heating up!

Romancing the Bedroom

We have all opened shelter magazines and find beautifully romantic bedrooms that we would just love to settle into. Our bedrooms are the most important room in our house, but often go neglected like many other

important things in our life.

We spend more time in this space than any other room in our home.  Here we cultivate our families, dream our biggest dreams and create some of our fondest memories.

Our bedrooms should be a sanctuary from the hurried world outside. A space that reflects our personality, a place that we love. Whether you like soft spa like colors, or bold dramatic tones creating such a retreat can prove difficult.

There are 3 key ingredients for a ideal bedroom:
  1. Lighting can make or break any space. We all need our brighter lighting for tasks, but soft lighting is key! Put your overhead lighting on dimmers, or use three way bulbs in lamps. (Try a few candles for that romantic ambiance.)
  2. Getting into bed should feel like a warm hug.Splurge on great sheets, pillows and blankets, it looks great and feels even better. (Write a love note to your love and stick it under their pillow.)
  3. Less mess = less stress.  Keep everything in its place, try to leave the tops of dressers and night stands clean. A few personal mementos and framed photos add a personal touch, but less is more. (Fresh flowers always add to any room.)
So as we celebrate Valentine's Day this February, spend some time "romancing" your bedroom and don't forget to let those you love know how important they are.

ROMANTIC WAYS to CELEBRATE LOVE
on Sanibel and Captiva

In 2013, Travel & Leisure Magazine voted Captiva one of the Most Romantic Beach Getaways.  And we couldn't agree more.  In this month of love, we put together our list of the Five Most ROMANTIC ACTIVITIES for the islands:

Sunrise stroll.  Watch the island come to life as the sun rises over the Bay or Sound.

Sunset Sailing.  Nothing is more romantic than a sailboat cutting through the water with nothing but the gentle sound of waves.  Visit New Moon Sailing to set up your personalized cruise.

Ball Room Dancing.  Yes, John and I can personally attest to how much fun comes from learning to dance.  Visit The Enchanted Ballroom and let the romance begin.

Get a Massage  Good for the mind, body and soul!  Find a spa near you

Watch the sunset.   Always different.  Always inspiring.  Make time in your life for this simple pleasure with the people you love.

Everything You Wanted To Know

About Where the Shells Are On The Islands!......

My friend Pam finds the bright side of everything.  Take for example the heavier than usual winds that blew on a recent weekend.  Its true, they may have disrupted boating plans for some, but oh what a bounty of shelling surprises it brought ashore!  Like this adorable baby starfish!   And there was so much more.  Visit Pam's blog at iloveshelling for details about all the treasures that mother nature brought for your beach combing pleasure.

And yes, in this month of love, it is perfectly acceptable to
fall in love with an echinoderm.

 Recipe of the Month
Chocolate Soufle:
Dessert of l'amour

Ingredients:

3 tablespoons butter

3 tablespoons sugar

3 ounces chopped bitter or semi-sweet chocolate

teaspoon vanilla extract

2 egg whites

2 egg yolks

pinch salt

pinch of cream of tartar

cup Kahlua

Directions:

Heat oven to 375 degrees F.

Use 1 tablespoon of butter to grease 2 ounce ramekins.

Coat the ramekins with the sugar, tapping out the excess.

In a large bowl, over a pan with simmering water, melt the chocolate and remaining butter, stir occasionally until smooth.

Remove from heat and add vanilla liquor and whisk in the yolks until smooth, set aside.

In a clean bowl, beat the egg whites with sugar, salt, and cream of tartar until stiff (but not dry), peaks form.

Gently fold the egg whites mixture into the chocolate and spoon into ramekins (the recipe can be made to this point up to 1 day ahead).

Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate.

Bake for 20 minutes, until set, puffed, raised 1-2 inches above the ramekin, If baked from the refrigerator, add 5 more minutes.

Et voila, you have a melt-in-your mouth souffle dessert. Enjoy!
