SOME, SOME, SUMMERTIME!
With the first day of Summer nearly upon us, we notice the islands heating up with romantic scenes of beach weddings. What a beautiful site watching couples "SAYING I DO" while the sun is setting over the Gulf of Mexico. To celebrate summer love, this month we have some great wedding tips and news.
Keeping with the theme, this month our Guest Columnist section will provide authoritative advice on "Destination Weddings" from our very own Island Expert to help you optimize your real estate goals.
Most of us have that "Honeymoon" feeling regarding the islands all year round. It is a fantastic place to nurture ourselves and our relationships.
We especially have Dad on our minds this month and what "Dad" doesn't love to boat and fish? To celebrate Father's Day, we will explore all the options to GET OUT ON THE WATER!

Plan Your 4th of July Holiday

The parade begins in the cool of the morning on Periwinkle Way at Tarpon Bay Road. Thousands of spectators line Periwinkle to view and enjoy the hour-long procession east that ends on Casa Ybel Road.
The fireworks are launched at dusk at the bayside water's edge at the foot of Bailey Road.
The Dunes Golf & Tennis Club once again is hosting the Sanibel & Captiva Fireworks Party with valet parking being offered along with live music, food and beverage service and face painting for the kids. Port Sanibel will be offering a fireworks cruise for waterfront viewing of the the celebration through adventureinparadiseinc.com

About Where the Shells Are On The Islands!......
Last summer, My friend Pam had the pleasure to meet Sean and Danita who were in Sanibel for their long awaited wedding. They already felt like they had "the find of a lifetime" when they found each other 8 years ago, But an injury sustained while serving in Iraq, caused Sean to undergo 7 years of recovery, delaying their wedding day. Finally, with the beautiful backdrop of a Sanibel sunset, Sean and Danita were married on the beach in front of their hotel... right where they found a 14 1/2" HORSE CONCH.
Mother Nature offered her best gift of the sea to this happy couple for their love and perseverance. As we come upon their one year anniversary, we hope life is still providing them with unexpected gifts.

SUMMER brings tidy schools of redfish, and they'll be increasing in numbers well thru October. Tarpon are to be found, as this is kind of like a mini season for them...so look for those rolling beauties and make your approach!
Cobia, king mackeral and big Jacks are in the drink, and
waiting to be caught! Snook is catch-and-release, and they're moving back and forth in Redfish Pass back thru Roosevelt Channel. Yes, the bait shrimp are small this time of year...but it seems those snook don't mind one bit.

Begins Renovation

Captiva Community Center 2014

Lee County approved the development order for the renovation and
expansion of the Captiva Community Center, one of the final steps
before construction begins on the $800,000 project. Although the building will only be expanded approximately 10 percent, there are many
enhancements planned, including:
- New Captiva Island Historical Society-sponsored museum area
- New covered veranda leading from the hall to a shaded courtyard
- New caterer-designed warming kitchen for socials and special events
- Expansion of Captiva Memorial Library's juvenile room, patron reading room, computer and work areas
- Larger, all-purpose community hall
- New roofs for both the community center and LCSO deputy residence
- Installation of emergency standby generator for use as public cooling and rehab center when needed following major storm events

Orange Crunch Cake
A delicious alternative to the traditional wedding cake
This week's recipe is compliments of Katie Gardenia, the original owner of the Bubble Room! You can find this, and other fabulous recipes in the book 'A Bubble Moment' available for sale at the Bubble Room Emporium.
Orange Crunch Cake
2 Boxes Betty Crocker Yellow Cake Mix
2 Tbsp Orange Extract
Substitute Orange Juice for Water
Follow directions on cake mix and add extract
Crunch Mix1 1/2 cups Brown Sugar
1 1/2 cups Graham Cracker Crumbs
1/2 cup Toasted Almonds
Mix Ingredients together and press into bottom of three 9" oiled cake pans
Icing1 1/2 boxes Powdered Sugar
16 oz Cream Cheese
1 lb. Butter
1/2 Tbsp Yellow Food Coloring
1 Tbsp Orange Extract
3 Drops Red Food Coloring
2 Seedless Oranges, thinly sliced
Mix cream cheese and butter. Add other ingredients. Garnish with sliced oranges. Top with orange marmalade (1 jar.) heated with juice of one lemon.
