The Landscape Investment
A beautiful way to increase property value
The blooms of spring are upon us! Eye-popping color is everywhere on the Islands this time of year. The bougainvillea are peaking and nothing glows as bright in the landscape as a "Barbara Karst" bougainvillea specimen or hedge. For anyone looking to add color to your home; now is the time. Just a quick ride around the Island will help peak your imagination for our own landscape. Gardenias and Confederate Jasmine vines are in full bloom and their fragrance adds to the ambiance of the landscape. Hibiscus and Ixora are not to be forgotten as their colorful blooms are also making a great show.
For anyone looking to make a great investment in a property, you must see the latest studies referenced by the FNGLA at last year's Trade Show which stated that adding only $250 in blooming plants to an existing landscape, the price increased by $1000 on the retail market value. That's the kind of return on my money I'd like! The FNGLA studies also found that for every $100 invested in landscape you would get a return of $109. A 9% return on a landscape investment, in comparison to other investments that promise profits less than a full percentage point, is a significant improvement. Beauty and profit are not the only benefits to a colorful landscape. A well designed landscape also functions by mitigating heat, buffering sound, screening views, and filters storm water drainage on your property.

in a quality landscape design upgraded an average home cost by 8.6%.
People today are not just living inside their home. Instead they want to bring the indoors out, to utilize and create outdoor rooms and are looking for quality in the landscape.
One of my clients recently texted me on their weekend trip down regarding the colorful re-landscaping we had done. In her words the addition of colorful Bromeliads, Cordylines, Hibiscus, Arboricola and other tropicals, "Makes me smile every time I drive up the driveway". Comments like this are what we hope to achieve in every landscape for every client.

Turtle Season Begins!
The Special Mothers of the Sea
May 1 - Oct 1 is a special time on our coast. Female sea turtles return to the place of their birth to lay their own eggs. This trek often requires swimming thousands of miles to return to nesting sites where they will lay between 50 and 175 eggs per clutch.
Looking to start a unique Mother's Day tradition? Consider walking the beach at first light. This beautiful time of day is when turtle tracks are most visible and when the island peacefully comes to life. It is a tradition you will be glad you started. We promise! Happy Mother's Day!

My friend Pam knows where the shells are! Sometimes they are in plain view and sometimes they are hidden just below the surface. Dramatic conditions, like those brought about during a full moon, make shelling particularly exciting.
Want to get a piece of the full moon shelling action? Mark your calendars for May 25th - this month's full moon. Then get out and enjoy the wonder! Hope to see you there!
For more images from April's full moon shells along with many other great tips about shelling on our islands, visit
Did You Know...In addition to loving shells, my friend Pam also loves Baseball?? Actually...she loves talking shells to baseball players! She was interviewed at a Minnesota Twins game during their annual Spring Training. Click here to listen
