The New 2013 Building Code & Why Its Good Business
In 2007, Florida adopted legislation to improve energy efficient standards. Its goal is to reduce the energy consumption demands of new homes by 50% by 2019. Each year, the code changes, gradually increasing the Home Energy Rating Service [HERS] rating builders must achieve. What does this mean if you are building a new home or pursuing a major renovation? Its good news! Because today's products are so technologically advanced, they not only provide dramatic improvements to insulation (and therefore energy efficiency), as a bonus - they can make your home stronger. Take for example the advances in insulation products. We recommend a closed cell, spray foam insulation for roofs and walls. The process of spraying allows the liquid foam to mold itself to all surfaces. This process provides a secondary moisture vapor barrier which reduces the risk of moisture intrusion into the walls. All today's closed-cell foam insulation are produced with a non- HCFC (hydrochloroflorocarbon) gas as the foaming agent. What does this science mean to you as a homeowner or new home buyer? - The rigidity of closed cell insulation provides added structural integrity - making roof and wall system stronger
- Superior comfort and indoor air quality because the home is dryer
- Excellent sound control making your home quieter
- Home is naturally cooler
- Less air conditioning is needed to maintain a comfortable temperature, making your energy bills lower
