John Ogden, New Jersey, and the Foundations of a New Country
June 11, 2014 6:30 - 7:30 PM Can a book help start a revolution? We like to think so...
John Ogden, one of the first settlers to New Jersey brought with him a Geneva Bible, as did many of the settlers to the English Colonies. In contrast to the King James translation, the Geneva bible was very 'anti-King'.
Rev. Dr. Robert Higgs, Pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Elizabeth, NJ and amateur historian, will illustrate how these books played a major part in laying foundations that led to the American Revolution, including New Jersey's role before and during the war for Independence.
Ogden's original 410 year old bible, which was recently discovered and restored, will be on display as well.
