 |
Teen Volunteers at the 2012 Patriotic Party
|
This summer, from Monday, June 24 through Saturday, August 10, Rockaway Township Residents entering grades 7-12 are invited to volunteer at the library! Stop by and fill out an application.
The Rockaway Township Library Teen Summer Volunteer Program is a seven week program open to all Rockaway Township Residents entering grades 7-12. Students may volunteer two hours per week for seven weeks. Volunteer duties include registering children for the summer reading club, preparing crafts for programs, helping librarians, organizing materials, and other tasks as needed.
All volunteers must attend an orientation session in June. Volunteer sessions are first-come, first-choice. Upon filling out your application, please consider any scheduling conflicts you may have later in the summer. Applications can be picked up at the library. All applications, signed by a volunteer and a parent or guardian, must be returned to the library's Circulation Desk no later than Friday, May 31.

Get Involved in Our Community Innovation Project - DIY Book Scanner
| The Rockaway Township Free Public Library is committed exploring new frontiers of innovation, preservation and technology. To that end, we are initiating an exciting new program-- the creation of a high quality book scanner, which can be used to create high quality digital versions of historical materials at minimal cost.We hope that this project will draw our community's innovators together in a unique collaborative effort.
We hope you'll join us; this should be fun. At this time, we are looking for:
1) donations of parts and materials. We are working from a template fully described at DIYBookScanner.org. Bolts, angle brackets, 2x4s, drawer slides... All of these are part of the project. You can download a full list of the parts we're looking for here. We hope to modify and improve on this design as we go. If you have any of these parts lying around your workbench or toolbox, please consider providing them as part of the finished product.
2) inventors, innovators, visionaries, makers, and present and future engineers who'd like to be part of this exciting initiative. We'd like to work together with our community to make this a truly cooperative project. We're looking for people who are willing to donate their time and effort to this project.
For more information, or to sign on with this plan, please contact Michael Maziekien, Head of Reference/IT at michael.maziekien@rtlibrary.org.
More to come soon...

Update - HVAC System Nearly Finished; New Circulation Desk
|
 |
The Friends of the Rockaway Township Free Public Library Executive Board: Anne, Rita, Bob and Muriel
|
Construction continues on schedule on the library's upper level. The heating, ventilation and air conditioning system has been fully renovated, ceiling tiles have been reinstalled and testing of the new system is underway.
The new system meets modern efficiency standards, and will create a healthier environment by ensuring circulation of fresh air throughout the library. We're looking forward to reopening the entire library to the public in May.
In other news, through a generous donation from the Jeanette Cohn Foundation and the Friends of the Rockaway Township Free Public Library, the library's 30 year-old circulation desk on the upper level will be replaced. Installation of the new desk will take place during the final stages of our HVAC renovation project, to minimize impact on our service.
We appreciate your patience during this long project. Your feedback along the way has helped us to evaluate, improve and enhance our services, as we work to provide an innovative and engaging public environment for all ages. See you soon at the library!
