Updates for HVAC Renovation |
Thank you for your patience and cooperation as we continue to renovate our heating, ventilation and air conditioning system. In our long-term mission to provide safe, comfortable and efficient service, you may experience limited access to parts of our library and collection. At this time, the lower level of the library is closed. Selections from our children's collection have been moved to the upper level; please ask for assistance to locate these books. We are happy to accept requests for books that are current unavailable due to construction. In the next phase of construction, the upper level will close, and essential services will be temporarily relocated to the lower level. Specific dates will be posted, in the library and on our web site, as soon as they are confirmed. Both floors will be open during the final stages of construction. Please contact the library at 973-627-2344 with any questions, concerns or feedback. |
Snowflake Collection for Newtown, CT Through January 9
|

Rockaway Township Public Library is deeply saddened by the tragedy that has struck the Newtown, CT community. We would like to show our support at this very difficult time. Newtown has asked for your help in providing snowflakes to decorate their new school. They would like the students to have a winter wonderland of snowflakes when they return to school.
The last date for snowflake collection is Wednesday, January 9. Pick up a snowflake to decorate at the library's circulation desk. You may decorate in the library with supplies provided, or take the snowflake home and return it to the library when finished. The library will mail the snowflakes to Sandy Hook in January to create a winter wonderland for the students.

Visit Historic Acorn Hall with a Library Museum Pass!
|

Check out a Family Pass to Acorn Hall, 19th-century house museum and headquarters of the Morris County Historical Society! Through the generosity of the Friends of the Rockaway Township Free Public Library, we hope you'll take advantage of this window into American history.
A free Family Membership Pass can be checked out by any Rockaway Township Library cardholder in good standing or employee of the Township in good standing, 18 years or older, who fills out a Museum Pass User Agreement at the Circulation Desk. The Pass, which can be reserved up to three months in advance and borrowed for up to seven days, provides admission for a family of two adults and up to four children. For more detailed information, please contact the library at 973-627-2344 or rockawaytwplibrary@rtlibrary.org.
Built in 1853, Acorn Hall is an unusually well-preserved example of a Victorian home, still displaying many of its original interior decorations, furnishings and architectural elements. Educational and cultural displays in individual rooms show what life was like in 19th-century upper-middle class America. The Hall and grounds are listed on the New Jersey State Register of Historic Places, the National Register of Historic Places, and the NJ Women's Heritage Trail. Visiting hours and directions are available at www.acornhall.org.
The purpose of the Friends of the Rockaway Township Free Public Library is to support the library and its patrons. It is a non-profit organization representing volunteers from our community. Click here for more information.

Congratulations and Best Wishes to Reference Librarian Alex Tretiak
| Reference Librarian Alexander Tretiak has accepted a position as Head of Circulation and Adult Services at the Glen Rock Public Library. A longtime resident of Glen Rock, Alex will bring his expertise in collection development, programming, marketing and technology to a new community. His last day with Rockaway will be January 11.
Since joining the Rockaway Township Library staff in 2011, Alex has been a tremendous asset to the library, instituting our popular ereader lending program, scheduling standing-room-only concerts and events, serving as host of a popular series of trivia nights, expanding our selection of computer classes, and working with local authors, historians and job seekers.
We'll miss working with Alex, and we wish him the best in all his future successes. Please stop by before January 11 to wish him well.
