Dear Friends,
We are happy to be celebrating the second-annual January Snowy Day Month, a festival initiated by Keats's publisher, Viking, to honor this beloved classic.
Educators across the country are using the celebration as a springboard for their annual Ezra Jack Keats author study. For decades Ezra's books have provided a natural beginning for conversations with young children about new siblings, bullies, peer pressure and generosity. Even so, a primary reason these books remain a vital part of school and home libraries is that they are beautiful, captivating and fun to read.
What books would you include in your Ezra Jack Keats author study? You might begin with The Snowy Day, and then follow Peter as he and his friends grow up in books like Whistle for Willie, Peter's Chair, A Letter to Amy, Regards to the Man in the Moon, and Pet Show! You could also explore the books that take place outside Peter's neighborhood. There are over 20 Keats titles to enjoy while you snuggle with your young readers and discuss how they would learn to whistle or invite someone new to their birthday party. Share a cup of hot chocolate and make reading together a lifelong memory!
Sincerely,
Executive Director
