Why is the Keats classic Whistle for Willie such a draw for young readers? New York Public Library President and CEO
Tony Marx explains.

Whistle for Willie, Ezra's follow-up to The Snowy Day, captures with simplicity and in vivid color a child's-eye view of a summer day.
Plus: Dachshunds, twirling and whistling, of course!

Dear Friends,

Have you checked out our Facebook page lately? It's busier than ever, with ever-more likes, thanks to Hailey McCarty, our Social Media Coordinator. Since her hire in the spring, she has also been juicing up our Twitter feed, advising on our website design and generally raising our profile around the Internet. Hailey is an lovely addition to the EJK staff, and we're very happy she's here.

Another change you'll see this month: We've added a couple of new standouts to our Minigrant Gallery. While some teachers and librarians are preparing their programs for the current school year and others are working on their applications for the next one, we'll be posting some of the best examples each month for inspiration. We hope to make the benefits of these creative projects a year-round endeavor.

Finally, whether your family follows their Thanksgiving feast with football or historical reflection, please accept our thanks for spending the year with us and our best wishes for a joyous holiday season!

Sincerely,

Associate Director

Ezra Jack Keats Foundation

In Whistle for Willie, Peter gets the most out of a summer day. This lesson on the book shows kindergartners how to get the most out of reading
a story and, like Peter, have fun doing it!

Bonus: Win a free poster, share a lesson plan!

It's time to revisit our Gallery of Outstanding Minigrants, where we're posting some of our favorite recent programs throughout the current school year. We hope they'll spark
a few ideas for next year's winners!
