Kitten for a Day?
When is a puppy not a puppy? When he's a kitten for a day! Four carefree kittens spend the day with one confused puppy. Nothing can spoil their fun - not a little spilled milk or a bump on the head. Finally our puppy hero is called home for lunch by his mom. But his new friends promise to play again soon, and then it will be the kittens' turn to be puppies for a day!
Bonus: Know your kits and pups (and saber-tooth cats and wolves!)

Dear Friends,
Superstorm Sandy ripped its way up the eastern seaboard, crashed into New Jersey and New York, then continued further inland. It is too soon to calculate all the losses suffered, but much of what we hear is heartbreaking. In the face of such sadness, we're also seeing many instances of generosity and a determination to repair and rebuild. Here in New York City, schools were shuttered for a whole week. Now they have reopened, and time is being spent calming frayed nerves and reassuring kids that life will continue and routines will be reestablished. We hope that the resources we provide on our site can help in this balancing process. Parents and teachers will find activities, games, read-alouds and lesson plans based on various Keats books. Many of Ezra's stories highlight moments of crisis through which kids find their way to higher, safer ground. These books can help children talk about feelings that arise from problems, even problems caused by giant storms. You are one of our family of fans. Share information about our website and about Keats with teachers and families who might benefit from what we offer. Hopefully, we will pull out of this disaster very soon. As we do, be safe, be well and have a warm Thanksgiving.
Sincerely,
Deborah Pope Executive Director Ezra Jack Keats Foundation P.S.: Because of the storm, our Kitten for a Day game has been delayed. We'll get it to you ASAP, as things calm down.

March to Minigrants
We love awarding Minigrants to great programs, so please take our advice: Plan your program early and then take time to improve and refine it into winning shape. Our last newsletter included a helpful hint to applicants, and we'll add more in future newsletters up to the deadline of March 15.
Tip:
To figure out if your program idea is feasible, break it down: How many participants, child and adult, will the program serve, and what roles will they play? It's important that everyone has enough to do to be really involved.
