In this December issue of the Kids e-Newsletter the Richmond Public Library is proud to bring you treats for the season. From festive puppet shows to singalongs and storytimes the spirit is bright here at the library. Jack Frost is nipping at our noses so curl up with the ones you love and enjoy a great read, joyous music, or a classic Christmas movie. All available from the Richmond Public Library.
Christmas at the Library
Bring the whole family in for this holiday extravaganza. There will be stories, puppets, crafts, laughs and even a Christmas song or two.  This is a free, drop in event for all ages.

        Celebrate Chanukah with Olive Press Workshop

Join us for a fun, free and interactive demonstration by Rabbi Baitelman of Chabad Richmond. Come and see the process that was used 2,000 years ago to produce pure olive oil for the Chanukah Menorah. This is a free event for all ages.

Write a letter to Santa!
The Giant Mail Box will be in the outside plaza of the Brighouse branch starting Dec. 8.
If you are thinking of sending your wish list or a nice note to Santa here is his North Pole address. The elves are helping Santa reply to every letter with a return address. 

Canada Post has some simple tips for your letter to Santa;
  • Include your full mailing address.
  • While wish lists are great, Santa would like to hear about is your favourite activities.
  • Santa also loves drawings.
  • Make sure your letter is mailed by December 16 so that the elves and Santa can answer you.
Pokemon Trainers' Gym
Cambie Library - Dream Room 
Fridays, 4-5 pm 

Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire have recently been released. Prepare for this epic adventure in the Pokemon Trainers' Gym at the Cambie branch of the Richmond Public Library. If you are looking for somewhere to train for battle bring your games and cards for the Trainers' Gym and battle other Pokemon connoisseurs to hone your skills. Participants must have their own games and cards and should bring DS/3DS and play video version as well. 

"To catch them is our real test, to train them is our cause!"
Parent and Child Read and Connect
This free, drop in program is a wonderful time for parents and guardians to learn through play. Stay after storytime and participate in literacy activities with your little ones.

Menorah Lighting

Celebrate Chanukah with the lighting of a giant Menorah on the plaza in front of the Brighouse Library. Enjoy live Chanukah music, traditional Dreidel games, crafts, and food. All ages welcome.

Babytime 
This is a free, 30 minute, weekly program. All of the Richmond Public Library branches are proud to bring you this fun and educational program. Learn rhymes, bounces, action songs, finger plays and lullabies. Connect with your baby and meet other parents. Expectant mothers and fathers are welcome too.

Tis the Season to Give  
 
The Holiday Season is here and you may be in the mood to give, either with your time or in donations. Find our list of charitable organizations that accept monetary donations as well as household goods, clothes, and other useful items.

Remember that donations can be made year round. These organizations can use your help year-round.

Looking for something fun to do with your child to celebrate the holidays? The library is a wonderful source for child friendly cook books, crafting ideas and decorating tips for the whole family.

Winter of the Ice Wizard  
   

Here is a wonderful winter read for 7-9 year old's from the Magic Tree House series by Mary Pope Osborne.

It is up the Ann and Jack to find Merlin the Magician and Morgan le Fay. With the help of their friends, Teddy and Kathleen, they will travel to a frozen kingdom to get Merlin's Staff of Strength from the evil Ice Wizard and save the day!
Hoopla Pick of the Month 

Christmas Favorites for Kids Vol. 2   
   

Stream some classic Christmas songs from this Hoopla favorite. Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer and Felice Navidad, Joy to the World and many more; this Holiday collection is sure to get everyone in the festive spirit.
