Drug and Alcohol Warning for Parents (notMYkid on 12 News)

Following the recent substance abuse-related death of "Glee" star Cory Monteith, notMYkid spoke with 12 News anchor Kim Covington about dangerous new drug and alcohol trends among young people. It is crucial that parents are aware of "N-Bomb" (NBOMe) and other recently-popular synthetic drugs, the practice of "smoking alcohol," and the recent resurgence of "Molly," also known as ecstasy or MDMA.

Please watch the above video to learn more about these concerning trends, and be sure to share it with those you know.  When it comes to preventing substance abuse and negative life choices among young people, knowledge truly is power.

Depression Peer Educator William
An Exciting New Year for notMYkid

On the heels of our most successful year ever, notMYkid is eager to launch into the new school year.  With our new amplif(i) speaker program, new website, and several new peer educators, we can't wait to see what the 2013-2014 school year holds.

One of our newest Peer Educators is William, an amazing young man who speaks on the topic of depression.  In addition to speaking for notMYkid, William also serves as an interfaith hospice chaplain, performs music in local yoga studios, and writes musical pieces for choir performances.

As part of his presentation, William lets students know, "When you begin to think to yourself or you hear 'you're not good enough' or 'no one will love you,' stop right there and know that those are lies. You are good enough. You're better than good enough, and you deserve better than that.  But most importantly, you are loved, more than you know."

We've been busy this summer updating and improving our parent and faculty presentations.  Our programs now have new information, updated statistics, and an eye-catching new look.  So even if you've seen one of our presentations before, you're in for something new.
Donor Spotlight: Thunderbirds Charities

For six years, Thunderbirds Charities has generously supported notMYkid's prevention education programs. Most recently, through donations totaling $115,000 over the last two years, Thunderbirds Charities has made it possible for notMYkid to expand its presentations beyond schools and into Boys & Girls Clubs throughout Arizona.  This expansion into after-school programs has allowed us to make an even larger impact than ever before and reach more kids with our message of positive life choices.  Additionally, through the "Birdies for Charity" program, Thunderbirds Charities has donated $20,000 to the notMYkid general operating fund.  We are incredibly grateful for the tremendous generosity of Thunderbirds Charities and would like to thank them for their support.
You make it possible for notMYkid to take a message of hope and positive life choices to students, parents, and educators in Arizona.  It's because of your generosity that notMYkid is able to reach so many young people across the state and prevent the pain, sorrow, and even death that can result from destructive youth behaviors.

At notMYkid, we inspire positive life choices by educating our community about the consequences of destructive youth behaviors. Young adults who have overcome life-controlling addictions and behaviors share their personal stories with middle and high school students. In an effort to promote our prevention message we educate adults on the same addictions and destructive behaviors. Our goal is to increase awareness of the challenges kids face, provide information, and offer resources to support the success of students, families and educators.
