Portlander from Normandy Is Knighted      
Dominique Geulin, owner of Saint Honoré Bakery and an active member of Portland's French-American community, was notified this week that the French National Minister of Agriculture has awarded him the status of Chevalier (Knight) in the Order of Agricultural Merit (Mérite Agricole). The award process for this prestigious recognition was initiated in 2011 by the office of Jack Cowan, Honorary Consul of France in Washington, with the support of three decorated chevaliers and officiers from the Portland area. Dominique, who was earlier named a Meilleur Ouvrier of France has also been nominated for awards recognition at the French-American Business Awards in Seattle on May 20, 2016. licitations, Dominique!

Bidders from six states are already participating in the Alliance's online-only auction that offers up 116 items valued at over $15,000. Certificates to top restaurants, performing arts and even immersion programs are available. Bid now and through the deadline, which is April 22. All the items will close their sale to the highest online bidder, with the exception of one item (the immersion program at the prestigious Institut de Français in Nice).
   Tickets are also available to attend the Soirée Provençale event auction at the MAC on April 23. It features live and silent auctions with $30,000 worth of items (separate from the online auction), as well as a seated gourmet dinner and live entertainment. French Grrls PDX Next Thursday
France comes to Portland next Thursday (April 21), through French Grrls PDX. Do you drool over images of flaky croissants? Long to make a perfect tarte? Want to set a table like la Comtesse? Then consider attending a unique, women-only creative retreat on April 21 - an event for discovering one's own "French moments." Summer French Immersion - Reserve Now
The schedule for the Alliance's immensely popular immersion program is now available. Click here for the flyer, which includes weeklong and  weekend formats. This year's programs will feature new lessons, activities and excursions - all selected for a challenging week or weekend of total language immersion.  Each day begins with breakfast and the latest international radio news, followed by perfection of grammar skills, practice and exercises. Following lunch, afternoon lessons and activities include conversation, listening comprehension tasks and pronunciation, a guided museum visit, film study, a Pittock Mansion tour with a walk through Forest Park - tout en français, bien sûr!
