Parisians' Joie de Vivre & Tourism
Alliance board member Pascale Theurier Beard took this picture in Paris last week, and shares that her friends in that city are keen to restore the country's famed joie de vivre. We've heard from a number of Portlanders who, like Pascale, continue with their travel plans or initiate new plans to visit the City of Light. At the same time there are reports in the media of the challenges to the tourism sector in Paris. The New York Times reported on the impact on reservations at Paris' 1,600 hotels (click here). Click here for similar coverage on Yahoo.news and here for reporting on CNN.
Holiday Boutique de Noël, Gift Cards and More
A new feature of the quarterly Portes Ouvertes set for Thursday, December 10 will be a Boutique de Noël that will feature Sellwood Flower's, Yen for Chocolates, and OYA Elegant Gemstone Jewelry. Staff, including the Alliance's new School Director Katy Le Bris, will help students select classes for the Winter Term (starting January 11) as well as for the Short Term (now through December 11.) Remember, winter-term registrations finalized at or before the Open House will save 10% off the course fee.
Searching for the perfect gift? Consider purchasing an Alliance gift card for a class, membership, or a couple of hours of highly focused French lessons. Contact the office at 503 223.8388. Gift cards can be paid for by credit card and are issued immediately. Offer the gift of language - a thoughtful, original expression of holiday cheer.

Join in the Giving!
The year end is rapidly approaching - there are less than 30 days left to think about charitable giving for 2015! Please consider making a tax-deductible year-end gift to further our work to provide innovative language and educational programs that bring the diversity and richness of French culture into the lives of so many people in our region. Your support, whatever the size, will be greatly appreciated. Call our office at 503 223.8388, make a secure online donation or mail a check to the Alliance Française de Portland, Development Year-End Appeal, 1425 SW 20th Avenue, Suite 102, Portland, OR 97201.
Beaujolais Nouveau Sets New Records
The Beaujolais Nouveau event on November 20 at the Heathman in Portland drew a record crowd of close to 500 people. The winner of the Delta tickets raffle was Mary B. of Bend, Oregon - félicitations! The event was covered by KGW's Live@7 (click here for the video). Event photos will be online shortly. Merci to all for supporting the event which was the largest of its kind on the West Coast.
Buying Champagne Aids the Croix-Rouge
Piper-Heidsieck Champagne was founded by Florens-Louis Heidsieck in 1785 in Reims. Its importer here in the Pacific Northwest, Terlato Wines, has launched a program to support the French Red Cross (Croix-Rouge) which is aiding the families affected by the recent violence. For every bottle of the Champagne that is sold in Oregon and Washington between now and New Year's Day, the company will donate $2 to the French Red Cross. The bottles sell in the range of $36-$50 and can be found at Whole Foods, New Seasons, QFC, Trader Joe's, Fred Meyer stores (the ones that have Wine Stewards), World Class Wines (Lake Oswego), and Great Wine Buys (Portland).
