Plan Ahead with Early Term Registration
In a brand new strategy to help students plan their progression in French well in advance, the Alliance is already publishing class lists and opening  enrollment for the upcoming December "Holiday" Term and the 10-week Winter Term (Jan. 11, 2015 to March 19, 2016). Check out the offerings online or in the following handy class lists: December Holiday Term, Winter Term for Adults, and Winter Term for Children. Also new: If you don't see a class that works for you or if you have a suggestion for a class or offering that would help you in your French, please email your thoughts to ihaveanidea@afportland.org. School Director Katy Le Bris will research and reply!

Thursday, November 12: Gad Elmaleh, France's #1 Comedian, will be at the Old Church in Portland on Thursday, Nov. 12. The event, which will be mostly in English, is sold out but two sets of tickets are available in the online auction - click here. Those sales benefit the Alliance - bid generously.
Friday, November 13: The third CINE-CLUB meeting still has openings. This is an opportunity to exercise your French with Annabelle Dolidon, PSU Professor extraordinaire, while discussing Les Dames de Boulogne. Details and registration are available here. Thursday, November 19: Francesca Blanchard, French-American singer songwriter whose song, Quelqu'un m'a dit (sung by Carla Bruni), is featured on Putumayo's international release, "Paris," will be opening for Malaysian singing sensation Yuna at Doug Fir Lounge on East Burnside in Portland on November 19. The sale of two passes to the show will benefit the Alliance - click here to snap those up. Thursday, November 19: Also on Nov. 19, St. Honoré Boulangerie SE Division is participating in the Nouveau Division Crawl (click here for tickets) as well as the Nov. 20 Beaujolais Nouveau at the Heathman (below). Thursday, November 19: At noon, the Cercle Français features a session on French cuisine. Details here. Friday, November 20: The Delta Air Lines raffle is completely sold out but there are still a handful of tickets to the Beaujolais Nouveau event itself at the Heathman. Register online while they last.

And Now, the New December Events
Tuesday, December 1: Explore French music at the Alliance with local singer-songwriter Eric John Kaiser, originally from Paris. Discover the lives, legacy and songs of icons such as Piaf, Brel, Aznavour, Brassens and many more. Click here for details and here to register. Tickets: $15 (members) and $20 (non-members). Mixed English and French. Friday, December 4: There are seats available in the Immersion Programs presentation at the Kamm House. Click here. Thursday, December 10: The Alli ance Open House will be on Dec. 10 at 6:30pm. Special Guest will be Lauralee Symes from Sellwood Flower Company. She will bring flower arrangements for everyday enjoyment and special ones for the holidays. Remember that Alliance members get 10% off when buying from Lauralee and other "Les Amis" companies. Saturday and Sunday, December 12 and 13 - The Alliance will offer a Theater Weekend Program for Children (ages 8-12) at the Kamm House. From 10am to 5pm each day, the children will experience theater with Pascaline Lefèbvre, who toured with a highly renowned Paris-based children's theater company for 12 years. The program will feature pronunciation exercises, tongue twisters, theater and improvisation games, and practicing scenes from plays. Bring your children to this two-day program while you do your last-minute holiday shopping. All levels of French are welcome. Click here for more information and here to register.

Win the Grand Taste Trip to Paris
Alliance member Maille mustard is sponsoring a drawing for a trip called The Grand Taste of Paris, supported by Atout France, Le Creuset, Galeries Lafayette, the Lido and others. The winner will stay at a chic boutique hotel (Le Burgundy) in the heart of the city and will have a private tasting experience of mustards on tap at the newest Maille boutique at the Carrousel du Louvre with a Mustard Sommelier. The experience will also include a VIP upscale shopping experience at Galeries Lafayette Paris Haussmann and a special Champagne dinner at the world famous Lido Cabaret on the Champs Elysées. Event Galleries, Member Postings and More

Impressionism Tour: The sold-out November 7 Intimate Impressionism tour in Seattle featured docents from Atlanta, Georgia and Poitiers, France as well as a group dinner with the Honorary Consul Jack Cowan at Le Pichet (near Pike Place Market). The tour involved members of both the Alliance of Seattle and that of Portland. Click here for photos of the experience. Note that the exhibit ends on January 10, 2016, so plan to catch it before it leaves Seattle. La Grande Séduction (English title is Seducing Dr. Lewis), a comedy from Quebec, will be shown at Clark College on Friday, November 20. Free and open to the public. Complete details here. Art Exhibit and Sale: Join three Portland artists for a one-day art show and sale at Bellamy Art Studio, 6351 SW Capitol Highway, in Hillsdale Village, from 10-4pm on Sunday, November 22. Alliance members Maarja Paris, Christina Reynolds, and artist Poppy Dully will show handcrafted felted works, fabric arts, paintings, art cards, and book arts. Witt Elected to National Board: Last week in San Francisco, former executive director Linda Witt was elected to the national board, la Fédération des Alliances Françaises USA, a federation of 100+ Alliances. Shown here in San Francisco last week are national and international leaders Isabelle Morieux of the Alliance foundation in Paris (at left in the photo), and Josette Marsh (right), the president of the national Federation of Alliances. Witt looks forward to leveraging the national experience to the benefit of local organizations and vice-versa. Clark College continues to be in the news as its plans to eliminate many academic programs, including language classes, are debated. French students are featured prominently in the latest news coverage - click here. Games Night: The Alliance's recent SOIREE JEUX drew 20 people for a fun evening of games in French. New Floating Hotel in Paris: Travel sites are abuzz with the news of new floating hotel in Paris on the Seine - click here for an article on the hotel which is being built in Norman dy and which will later float on the Seine. Meet French Conductor Ludovic Morlot in Seattle: On December 6 meet the French conductor of the Seattle Symphony, Ludovic Morlot (photo at left), in person. At Beniroya Hall the symphony and chorale will deliver an all-French program including Fauré's Requiem, a masterpiece of serenity. Afterward, meet the conductor. Last Chance for Online Auction: The online auction featuring many French connected items in Seattle and in Portland will close to the highest online bidders on November 17, in just seven days. The public is invited to participate. The fundraiser is operated by the Alliance's frequent event partner, the FACC, and benefits the FACC, the Alliance and FEN - all French-connected nonprofits.
