"Games Night" Event at the Alliance
Imagine tuning your French by playing games - it puts a whole new spin on the experience. The Alliance is organizing a games night on Friday, November 6, 6:15-8:30 pm at the Kamm House (1425 SW 20th Avenue). Under the guidance of Alliance staff members, you'll play Taboo, Pictionary, Mille Bornes, Scrabble, Uno and more. All levels are welcome - from beginner to native-fluent; adults only. Drinks and snacks will be provided. Click here to register; $15 for Alliance members and $20 for non-members.
Alliance Expands Management Team
The Alliance is pleased to welcome new School Director, Katy LeBris. Katy, shown here at the far right with Sherry Charles, has a PhD in Literature and Media from USC. Originally from Normandy, Katy has taught French and coordinated cultural programs in higher education settings in the U.S., France, England and Ireland. At USC she earned the Dean's Award for Teaching Excellence and co-authored a French textbook. Portlanders may recall Katy from earlier as a teacher at PSU and the Alliance (2006-2009). Bienvenue, Katy! In other Alliance news, Acting Executive Director Sherry Charles attended the national conference of the Alliance Française Federation and Delegation last week in San Francisco.
PSU-Alliance Ciné Club Discussion
The third Ciné Club discussion evening will be on November 13. Watch the movie in advance and then come to an informal discussion group where PSU Professor Annabelle Dolidon will guide the group in easy French and some English. The movie to be discussed is Les Dames du Bois de Boulogne (1945), directed by Robert Bresson. It's a poetic and chilling movie about revenge. Look for the discussion to touch on how this film evokes other great movies and novels, as well as the filming conditions during WWII in France. Check out the DVD at the Alliance office, watch it on Hulu or buy it on Amazon. Click here to register; $5 for Alliance members and $7 for non-members.
