Raffle for Business Class to Europe
Raffle tickets are now available for the final airline ticket raffle of the year. The prize is two round-trip Delta One™ tickets from Seattle to Europe on Delta-operated flights. The winner's name will be drawn on November 20, 2015 at 9pm at the Heathman Hotel, 1001 SW Broadway in Portland. Winners need not be present to win. The proceeds will benefit the nonprofit trade mission of the French-American Chamber of Commerce of the Pacific Northwest, and the education mission of the Alliance Française of Portland. Impressionism Weekend in Seattle
Join a group of Portlanders for an organized weekend tour featuring French art and culture in Seattle on Nov. 7-8, 2015. The highlight is a private tour of the Intimate Impressionism exhibit at the Seattle Art Museum. The collection is normally at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC; this is the first time it has ever gone on tour. The exhibit features 68 paintings that are considered to be the jewels of French Impressionism, including works of Manet, Renoir, Monet, Boudin, Cézanne, Degas, Gauguin, and Van Gogh. Tour participants will have the option of preferential rates at the French-0wned Warwick Hotel, a luxury boutique hotel in downtown Seattle. Comedian Gad Elmaleh in Portland
The French comedian and actor Gad Elmaleh will be in downtown Portland on Nov. 12, 2015 at the Old Church. Described as the "Ben Stiller of France" and the "Jerry Seinfeld of French Comedy" Elmaleh is recognized as one of the most popular comedi c stars in France. Born in Casablanca, Morocco, he speaks Moroccan Arabic, French, English, and Hebrew. Click here for tickets (the page also has an impressive summary of Elmaleh's accomplishments in film and comedy). The performance will be in English and will likely touch on multicultural issues. On Ticketmaster his reviews get 4.8 stars out of 5. His booking in Seattle sold out almost immediately so the Portland show is the only option left for folks in the Pacific Northwest.

Bienvenue & Welcome Back, Too
Over 400 students are currently enrolled in classes and private lessons at the Alliance in Portland. The organization is pleased to welcome new and returning te  achers to guide our students to mastery of French. Welcome to Mathilde Pointi ère who is from La Rochelle, France. She recently completed her Master's degree in romance languages at the University of Oregon in Eugene. Mathilde has taught French at the college level for two years and has completed extensive study on second language acquisition methods. Welcome also to Armelle Denis (photo at left),  who hails from Lyon where she earned her Bachelor and Master's degrees. After a year of post-graduate studies at the Sorbonne, she moved to Corvallis w  here she pursued a Master's degree at Oregon State University. Armelle taught all levels of French at OSU for 11 years prior to relocating to Portland. Finally, welcome back to Oana Talpalaru (photo at right) who recently resumed teaching literature, cinema and conversation classes at the Alliance.

Beaujolais Nouveau News
The Beaujolais Nouveau festival, set for November 20 at the Heathman, is starting to hit the press in the region, including a mention on PDX Eater. In other news, the eve nt is pleased to welcome the premium French mustard, Maille, to the gourmet food line-up at the event. Maille Dijon Original and Whole Grain mustards, and possibly the exclusive truffle mustard, will be sampled. Maille was also featured recently at Feast Portland (photo at right). Ticket sales are brisk for the November event - VIP reserved tables are sold out, though a few individual Opus reserved seats are still available. Discounted tickets for Young Professionals (persons aged 21 to 35 years) are still available, as are standard guest tickets. Click here for reservations.
