Now Enrolling for the Fall Term         
Explore French this fall at the Alliance Française, where you'll find a wide array of classes for all levels and all ages (adults and children), from beginner to advanced. New offerings include a class on the history of French cinema, aAfClass class on Montpellier, and Literature classes for B1 and B2 levels. Not sure of your level? Take the complimentary online test or call the office at 503 223.8388. Also remember that all are welcome to attend the Open House (Portes Ouvertes) on Thursday, September 3. Visit with teachers, chat with staff, discover your level and the best course for you. Enrollments at or prior to the Open House qualify for 10% off the course fee. Classes will be held at the Alliance's Kamm House with free parking available within 5 minutes walking distance; see the parking page for details. 
Gods & Heroes Exhibit - Tour and More
On Thursday, September 10, 6:15-7:30pm, the Alliance is partnering with the Portland Art Museum to organize a tour in French of the exhibit "Gods and Heroes" which includes 140 masterpieces by Europe's most renowned artists since the seventeenth century. The tour will be given in easy-to-understand French by Elene Zedginidze, formerly of the Musée Beaubourg in Paris. Tickets are $17; current PAM members may attend the tour for free. Cine-Club on August 31       
The second Ciné Club discussion will be held at the Alliance on August 31 in easy French with some English. The discussion will center on the film, "The Girl from Paris" (French title: Une hirondelle a fait le printemps). It's about a young Parisian woman who decides to radically change her life and become a farmer. The movie was nominated for two Césars and won awards in several festivals. Watch it in advance of the meeting, then come discuss it with others in a group format facilitated by Annabelle Dolidon, Professor of French at PSU. You're Invited to Discover Tahiti & Its Pearls!
The international airline of French Polynesia, Air Tahiti Nui, will partner with Alchemy Jeweler and the Tahitian company, Black Market Pearls, on a three-day event in the Pearl in early September. Stop by Alchemy (1022 NW Lovejoy) Thursday through Saturday (September 3-5) for "Pearls in the Pearl," to learn about the French Polynesian Islands, chat with a representive for the airline (a native Tahitian), and explore the exotic world of natural Tahitian Pearls. Visitors to the three-day event can enter a raffle  where the grand prize is two roundtrip tickets from L.A. to Tahiti aboard Air Tahiti Nui (a $2500 value). Proceeds from the raffle benefit the Alliance Française and France Education Northwest!  
French-American Networking in Portland        
The Honorary Consuls of Washington and Oregon, Jack Cowan and Françoise Aylmer, attended business networking events held during  the first week of August in Portland. The events, featured on the Facebook page of the Embassy of France in the U.S., welcomed representattives of these sectors: digital marketing, translation services, dental equipment manufacturing, education, marketing, journalism, international trade development, winemaking, wine importing, Cognac importing and distribution, nonprofit management and information technology.    PICA's Annual TBA Festival:
PICA TBA (Time-Based Art) set for Sept. 10-20 draws artists from across the country and around the globe for a convergence of contemporary performance and visual art. Alliance members can use a discount code as follows: the code "TBA15Francaise" will
apply a 20% discount and can be applied only to these three shows (as well as the Field Guide admission): French-Tunisian choreographer Radhouane El Meddeb's "La compagnie de soi: Je danse..." (Sept. 15 & 16) and "Au temps où les Arabes dansaient" (Sept. 18 &19), as well as French director Philippe Quesne's La Mélancolie des dragons (Sept. 17 & 18).    Paris Travel Updates: The Ritz in Paris, closed for remodeling since 2012, is now taking reservations for March 2016.   Conversation Group News: A crowd of around 20 Francophiles and Francophones met at Chez Machin on SE Hawthorne last Monday for a monthly Alliance Conversation Group led by board member Jennifer Coyne. Participants (photo at left) were at all levels, from beginners to native fluent.   New "La Moule" Restaurant to Open Soon: The owners of St. Jack are opening a new restaurant at the end of the summer. La Moule will feature mussels and fries and will be located in SE Portland. Click here for coverage on OregonLive.
