Big Savings on Immersion - Here & Abroad
We're very sure that we are the only online auction to feature the top immersion programs in France as well as our own home-grown program, "French on the Willamette."  If you are thinking of taking your French to the next level, then take a look at these items in the online auction, where you can save us much as $700 off of premium programs' costs. The Institut de Français near Nice is widely acknowledged as the finest immersion program in the world, welcoming many  students from our region. For those interested in Burgundy, we feature a program near Beaune; board member Sherry Charles just wrapped up a couple of weeks there, and recommends it. The third option in France is the "mother ship" of all Alliances, located on the Left Bank in Paris; you'll find a certificate for a one-week, 20-hour program. And don't forget the Alliance of Portland's own program which heads into its 8th year this summer. Check out the online listing and contact the office to see if you are a good fit for that program, and start bidding now!
First CINE-CLUB with Annabelle Dolidon
On May 29 join PSU professor Annabelle Dolidon for animated discussions in English, French or both, of the film, Une affaire de femmes. Dr. Dolidon received her Ph.D. from UC Davis in 20th- and 21st-century French and Francophone literature, with an emphasis in Feminist and Critical Theory. She received her master's degree from the University of Notre Dame in French Studies. Her insightful presentations at both the Cercle français and at the Alliance have been very popular. This first PSU-Alliance film discussion group is a great value with tickets priced at just $3; it promises to be intellectually stimulating, as well as an exercise in language. French Films Coming Soon to Portland

Living Room Theaters has a couple French films coming soon that will be of interest. On May 29 starts the run of Marie's Story, a true story of a young deaf and blind girl who is cared for by a group of nuns in central France. NYC Movie Guru describes the film as a "heartwarming and superbly-acted drama that hits all the right emotional notes." The Village Voice reveals, "To play Marie today, Améris found the non-actor Ariana Rivoire at the Institute for the Deaf. And Rivoire is a revelation - showing what it's like to be in, and then break out of, a world of total darkness and silence." Click here for the trailer and here for the page on Living Room Theater's site.  Then in June is the romantic comedy, Love at First Fight (the French title is Les Combattants). It's a story of young love that won several awards in 2014 and 2015. Both films are in French with English subtitles.
