New Beaujolais Nouveau Event Menu

On Monday the Portland press will begin discussing in earnest the upcoming Beaujolais Nouveau festival at the Heathman. The highly anticipated menu for the event has just been released - highlights include fresh shucked Hama Hama oysters, seared Ahi tuna, steamed Penn Cove mussels, Gérard & Dominique salmon, Vol au Vent lobster, roast leg of beef, Carlton Farms roasted pig, Brie Le Châtelain, Roquefort Société, and much more. Click here for the complete menu, from hors d'oeuvre to desserts. Just 90 tickets are left for this event; click here for event info and here for tickets. Proceeds from the event benefit the nonprofit education missions of the Alliance and the FACC.

La Chambre Bleue Continues Thru Thursday

We're hearing from Anglophones and French alike that they are enjoying the movie La Chambre Bleue (Blue Room) that is playing at Living Room Theaters in downtown Portland. The theater is extending the film's run through this Thursday, November 6. Says director Linda Witt, "We recommend the film for adult learners of French at all levels. The format of the dialogue is question-and-answer with the judge magistrate questioning the suspects. The pace and the repetition of the dialogue make for a good exercise in listening comprehension - and subtitles are available as well." Click here for the trailer.

Measuring Your French - For Fun
The international standard for describing one's mastery in another language is the Common European Framework, which identifies 6 levels: A1-A2 beginner/basic, B1-B2 intermediate/upper, and C1-C2 high proficiency/advanced. Classes at the Alliance are ranked by that framework. Several standardized tests, such as the TCF (Test de connaissance du français), measure one's fluency according to the 6 levels. Now there is a free online TCF test simulator on TV5MONDE's site; you can take the tests as often as you like. Click here, choose one of the 10 "series", and complete the 3 parts (each part has 10-15 questions): Listening comprehension, language structure and reading comprehension. Select your answers and at the end of each part, you'll get immediate, accurate feedback on where you fall in the A1 to C1 scale. Seeking improvement? Come take a class with us!
Seeking Interview Subjects for Montreal Radio
A French-language radio program in Montreal is seeking interview subjects (over the phone) as follows. If you would like to help, email info@afportland.org and we'll connect you.
