Simenon's La Chambre Bleue - Free Tickets

The Alliance is partnering with the promoters of La Chambre Bleue (The Blue Room) film starring Mathieu Amalric, to give away 40 "admit-two" passes. The film opens in Portland on October 24 at Living Room Theaters, and is based on a novel by Georges Simenon, in which two adulterous lovers go from pillow talk to possible murder in a brain-teasing thriller (click here for the trailer). The free passes will be given to new, renewing or current Alliance members; pass-holders can bring one guest (for a party of two) to their choice of show dates on October 27-30 (Monday-Thursday). Current Alliance members should click here to request a movie pass. New or renewing members should click here to sign up for membership at the same time as requesting a movie pass for two.

24 Raffle Tix Left: Business Elite on Delta

In the previous bulletin we announced the availability of an exclusive Delta Air Lines raffle for two Paris Watchround-trip Business Elite (business class) tickets from Portland to Europe via Amsterdam. Bob Derrick is the winner of an earlier Delta raffle and as it happens, he took his free trip this month and reported great feedback, noting that "the Delta flights were exceptional." Other past raffle winners likewise report excellent feedback on their experience. Don't miss your chance to participate in next month's drawing - click here for details and here to purchase raffle tickets securely online - while the ticket supply lasts.

The Language Corner
Alliance staff members Linda Fuchs and Francine Chough recently attended intensive training in Seattle and subsequently passed exams that certify them as DELF/DALF examiners and correctors at all CECR proficiency levels. Executive Director Linda Witt notes, "Obtaining this broad level of certification is an important accomplishment. Many of our students and others in the region are keen to have their level of French officially assessed, for example, to apply to teach English in France through the Teaching Assistant Program. (Note that the TAPIF application deadline is coming in January.) Félicitations, Linda et Francine!
French Music at Vie de Bohème
Alliance organization member, Vie de Bohème in SE Portland, will host two French-connected events in late October and early November. First, on October 25, Eric John Kaiser will join forces with Alex Toucourt (shown here at right), a singer/songwriter from France, currently on tour in the U.S. (Click here for an idea of Toucourt's music.) The evening is a CD release party for Eric John Kaiser and his band, and starts at 8pm. Tickets ($10 or $12 for reserved seats) can be purchased online. The evening will also feature French wine and French food specials. Alliance members: Show your membership card and claim a free CD.
Then on November 2, the same venue will host a unique evening concert of French and German music by Siri Vik. Vik's concerts usually command ticket prices of $30-40 but here in Portland the tickets for this special event will be just $8 to $10. For complete details visit the event web page which now also includes a link for ordering tickets in advance (as well as instructions on how to get a 10% discount).
