Diavolo Coming Soon - Save on Tickets        
Portland's contemporary dance organization, White Bird, will bring a Diavolo dance company production,"Architecture in Motion," to the Newmark Theatre, October 9-11. Diavolo, based in Los Angeles, was founded by Jacques Heim, who was born and raised in Paris. Heim's work has received worldwide acclaim for its fusion of everyday movement, ballet, contemporary, acrobatics, gymnastics, martial arts, and hip-hop. Heim also choreographed a Cirque du Soleil production and has been featured on BBC America and Bravo. Click here for complete details on the show.Portland show. Four Hundred Students in the Fall Term
Close to 400 students will learn or improve their French in group classes and private lessons in the Alliance's fall term which started this week. The average class size is 6-7 students, with some smaller and a few, larger. Wishing to polish your accent? There are openings in the "Sounding French" class, in the literature class, and in several other classes. There are also a few openings in the children's after-school and Saturday classes, including one for native-bilingual children wishing to keep up their French. Call 503.223.8388 to inquire about openings in adults and children's classes. New enrollees in weeks 1 and 2 are welcome on a space-available basis.     
Save the Date: Wine, Music & Film Events   

Beaujolais Nouveau: Portland's 13th Annual Beaujolais Nouveau festival will be on Friday, November 21, at the Heathman. Emceed by KGW NewsChannel 8's Russ Lewis (shown here), this popular event will draw 450 people. Ticket reservations - which will include extensive wine tastings as well as an outstanding buffet - will go on sale very shortly and will feature the option to participate in an exclusive raffle for two Business Class tickets on Delta Airlines!    NW Film and Alain Resnais:  NW Film will feature Alain Resnais' film, JE T'AIME JE T'AIME on October 31 and November 1, 2014. This 1968 film classic is a science fiction drama featuring time-travel experiments. Visit www.nwfilm.org for details.

   Franco-Allemand Music Event: The Alliance partners with Zeitgeist Northwest to promote a unique music event on November 2 at Vie de Bohème in SE Portland, featuring Siri Vik, a Eugene-based singer who has performed in New York, London, and in Italy. At the Portland event Vik will sing in German and in French (songs from Edith Piaf, Jacques Brel and more). In earlier bulletins we mentioned two world-class events that will take place, or end, this week. Both feature discounts for Alliance bulletin readers. Note that advance tickets for Friday are no longer available but will be available at the box office, an hour before showtime at the performance venue.

   And if you haven't seen the Tuileries exhibit at the Portland Art Museum, remember that it ends this Sunday, September 21. Nanny/Au Pair/Childcare from Provence: Alliance member Sophie Burke would like to coordinate a nanny/"au pair"/childcare job for her niece Manon, who lives in Provence. Manon, who'll be 18 in 2015, is hoping to stay with a family in Portland or Hillsboro, starting in September or October 2015, for a year. Her goal will be to improve her English while providing in-home childcare. Sophie, her aunt, vouches for her reliability and will help coordinate all logistics. Seeking a 104 Partner: An Alliance student, Katrina, would like to find another adult or two to share private lessons at the Alliance on Tuesday or Thursday mornings this fall, to complete the Latitudes 104 level. This mid-beginner class would cover how to express obligations, suggestions, advice; describing a place; frequency of actions; and grammar: "quelque chose, rien; quelqu'un, personne"; construction of obligation: il faut, devoir; relative pronouns "qui, que, où"; indirect object pronouns; placement of adjectives; object pronouns "y & en" ; demonstrative adjectives.
