Fanny Ardant Film at Living Room Theaters
Now playing at Living Room Theaters is the romance, Bright Days Ahead (Les Beaux Jours), starring Fanny Ardant as an older woman, just retired, who takes on a younger lover. Many know Ardant for her role in Ridicule (one of the most popular films in the Alliance's DVD lending library) and others will remember her as Marie de Guise, opposite Geoffrey Rush in the Oscar winner, Elizabeth. Click here to view the new film's trailer (subtitled in English) and here for the schedule. Finally, click here for a recent artéMédia interview in French (5 minutes, not subtitled) with the actress, as she touches on the clichés of the "cougar" and more.

Tuileries at the Portland Art Museum
Paris will come to the Portland Art Museum starting June 14 with an international exhibition celebrating le Ja rdin des Tuileries. The garden, which stretches from the Louvre to the Place de la Concorde in central Paris, was originally created in 1564 and became Paris' first public park in 1667. The exhibition in Portland involves the exceptional collaboration of the Louvre and the Musée Carnavalet Histoire de Paris, as well as the promotional support of the Alliance Française, among others. Member Announcements, Job Postings & More
Te acher Openings: The Alliance is interviewing for experienced FLE teachers; must have native-level fluency or equivalent. Also must already have the right to work in the U.S. (visas are not sponsored). Send CVs to Linda Fuchs (lindaf@afportland.org). Student Successes: We are pleased to share that Alliance students Toni Castro and Anna Koon have both passed the DALF C1 exam. According to the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference), language users at the C1 level can express themselves fluently and spontaneously. They possess a large vocabulary, can choose the appropriate expression to introduce their comments, and they can produce clear, well-structured discourse without hesitation, which shows controlled use of structures. Félicitations to Anna, Toni and their Alliance teacher, Oana Talpalaru. Le Point Article: Le Point recently published an interesting article that explains how anglicisms tend to invade the speech of French expatriates. Click here to read the online article (in French) and the readers' comments as well (often as enlightening as the article). Merci to B éatrice Lantres of Bordeaux for sharing this article.
OPB Radio Spots: No, it's not your imagination - occasionally you'll be hearing radio spots about the Alliance Fran çaise, on OPB radio. Baba Wagué Diakité, an engaging storyteller, writer and illustrator from Mali (West Africa) will be presenting his storytelling skills live at Mt. Hood Community College on Monday, May 12, 2014, from 12:00-2:00 PM, at the MHCC Student Union's Fireplace Room. Diakité presented in French last year at the Alliance; at MHCC he'll present in English with a smattering of French vocabulary. This event is free and open to the public.
