"Paris-in-Portland" Dinner with Alsace Menu
A couple times per year the Alliance organizes "Paris-in-Portland" prix-fixe group-dinner events at French restaurants, at which participants can specify their seating preferences by language (English-French mixed, French-only or English-only). Tickets are now available for the Paris-in-Portland dinner to be held on May 20, 2014, at St. Honoré's new location on SE Division. Click here for the Alsace-inspired menu; the fixed price of $33 includes the multi-course dinner as well as complimentary Lillet of the Valley cocktail apéritifs, and the gratuity. Click here to reserve tickets; the event is open to all. Act soon, as "Paris-in-Portland" dinners sell out quickly.
Soirée St. Tropez Photos and Comments

Close to 200 people gathered at the MAC last Saturday to participate in the Soirée St. Tropez, including the French Consuls from the states of Washington and Oregon. The event grossed $80,000 in support of nonprofit education missions, including scholarship programs. Click here for the online photos and run the slideshow, ending in shots of the live auction items. Merci to Sarah Harrington, photographer. Wondering if you'd enjoy attending such events in the future? Then view the attendee comments, made in both French and in English: click here.

This Thursday: Opening Night for Art Exhibit
Alliance staff member Meriem Bouhaddouda is an accomplished artist and has a Master's degree from ENSAM (Ecole Nationale Supérieure d'Arts et Métiers, Paris / Lille). Her work in ink on watercolor paper, representing Algerian women from the late 19th century through the 1950s, was recently featured in an art reception in Portland. On Thursday, May 1st, she will have a vernissage (a premiere opening) called Immersion sentimentale at 7pm at French Cut Hair in the Pearl (416 NW 11th Avenue). The works at this event will be nudes in media of ink and oil. No reservation necessary.
And the Delta Air Lines Winner Is . . .
Merci to all the folks who participated in the recent Delta Air Lines raffle for two roundtrip "go anywhere in the world" tickets. Many of you bought raffle tickets online and others bought them at the April 19 event at the Multnomah Athletic Club. The winner this time was an online purchaser, Robert Derrick. Shown here at left with Alliance staff member Aaron Sewall, Robert confirms that he's never before won a raffle. Bravo, Robert, and merci to Delta Air Lines and all who participated in that fundraiser.

Request for Host Family for French Student:  Mathilde Hanault (age 17) is coming from Paris for three weeks in July 2014 (the 5th or 6th through the 18th) with her 15-year-old sister to visit family friends in Portland. Her younger sister will be staying with the family friends; Mathilde herself would like to broaden her experience by staying with another American family. Mathilde is an experienced baby sitter, speaks good English and would really enjoy a family with younger children so she can help out while she is here. If you are interested in hosting, please email Portlander Kim Dement (kim.dement@gmail.com); she will serve as the local contact.
