Fresh French Shorts this Friday & Saturday
NW Film Center has just published the program for the annual festival of Fresh French Shorts to be shown at W hitsell Auditorium in the Portland Art Museum on Friday (11/29) at 7pm and Saturday (11/30) at 5pm. The 90-minute line-up of eight recent shorts by emerging French directors includes narrative, documentary, and animated international prizewinners. Though the program leads with an animated film, the subject matter of the festival is suited to adults, not children. Actors include new talents as well as familiar ones such as Gérard Dépardieu in Frank-Étienne vers la Béatitude. Knowledge of French is helpful but not required; most of the films will be subtitled in English. Purchase tickets online at www.nwfilm.org. Alliance members qualify for discounted ticket prices.

In Memoriam
Longtime friend of the Alliance, Debbie Maymi, died in a car accident in Portland this past Monday, November 25. "Debbie was a remarkable woman with a very wide range of interests, extending to the French, German and Spanish languages," shares Linda Witt. "Debbie and her husband Rafael, pictured here, attended Alliance events over the past many years, including the fundraising events in the spring and fall, as well as receptions such as the one in 2011 for the Consul General of France. Debbie, who was President of Pacific Wax, was also very active in supporting OHSU's Knight Cancer Institute. Her cheerful presence at our events and her steadfast support of her many friends at the Alliance will be greatly missed."
