Word Play
: To tell someone to go left is allez à gauche, and right is à droite, but straight ahead is tout droit. . . Note that droit refers to straight, whether straight ahead (as in a direction) or vertically (il se tient bien droit). Someone who is left-handed is gaucher (Obama is gaucher) or gauchère (if feminine) but if one is clumsy, one is simply gauche or maladroit. Droit, of course, is used in man
y common expressions and has many meanings - visit the popular resource, wordreference.com, and consider a class at the Alliance.
Art Exhibit: Alliance staff member Meriem Elatra Bouhaddouda's paintings will be in an exhibition September 27 through December at the Westshore Building, 222 SW Pine Street in Portland. Public Speaking in French: In addition to 10-week classes, the Alliance occasionally offers workshops, such as the Friday, October 4 workshop on public speaking in French. Click here for details.
