Concours de Tartes aux Fruits - Coming Soon!
The Concours de Tartes aux Fruits will feature some fun changes for 2013, the 6th year of this contest that determines the top pastry chefs in our region. First, the event m oves to Multnomah Athletic Club to accommodate its growing audience. Second, celebrity chefs Ken Forkish (Ken's Artisan Bakery) and Janie Hibler (author of The Berry Bible) will join returning judges, Philippe Boulot and Pascal Chureau, on the judges panel. Finally, the event attendees will not only enjoy tasting the tartes from the region's top pastry chefs, but also French-style premium ham and gourmet imported cheeses, as well as sparkling wine and European-style cider. The event will be on August 8 so that chefs can take full advantage of summer fruit bounty. For complete details including the link for online ticket reservations, click here. This event, a partnership of the Alliance with MAC and Oregon Culinary Institute, sells out quickly; register early!

Free Soccer Match this Saturday
As mentioned in the previous bulletin, the public is invited to attend a "friendly" (a soccer term for an exhibition game) between Martinique's soccer team, Les Matinino, and the Timbers under-23 squad on Saturday, June 29, at 7pm at Buckman Field (300 NE 12th Avenue) in NE Portland. There are some bleachers at the field but attendees might also wish to bring their own folding chairs. Bring picnics/food for enjoyment on site or visit food carts. Considering fan gear? Martinique will be wearing Royal Blue and White uniforms. French flags are welcome too. The match is free to the public. For complete details, click here.

School News, Visitors from France & More
Summer enrollment at the Alliance is up nearly 10% from last year. Most classes began this week; call for openings. New students can often be accommodated after the start of the term, and new private-lessons students are welcome at any time. Visit the website or call 503.223.8388. In other news, the Alliance hosted a visit from Philippe Liria, who is an editor and pedagogy specialist from the Paris-headquartered Editions Maison des langues. Liria, shown here with Education Manager Kathryn Mascorella, conducted a training session for Alliance staff and introduced some of the newest pedagogy tools being developed in Europe.
