Tuff Shed® Picks
San Joaquin USA for Visibility
Tuff Shed Inc., one of America's leading providers of installed storage buildings and garages, is taking advantage of San Joaquin County's superior transportation network by relocating to a highly visible new location near Highway 99.
Vice President of Marketing Phil Worth says visibility of their location is a critical factor for Tuff Shed.
"This location had all the crucial elements," says Worth. "It has easy interstate access, visibility and is a nice updated facility."
Tuff Shed is moving into a 24,800 square foot facility in the Cherokee Industrial Park in an unincorporated area of San Joaquin County. The move is from a recently sold and slightly larger facility in a more southerly area of the county.
"This move is 'right-sizing' for us," says Stockton General Manager Kirk Sanders. "We are reducing overhead and will have a nice inside retail showroom, which is a standard customer -service feature of all our locations. Our network of company-owned factories and sales locations are the only places you can purchase the Tuff Shed Garden Series®, Premier Series® and Premier PRO Series® of buildings.
Tuff Shed, which began operations in 1981, has been in California for about 20 years, setting up shop in Modesto, CA in 1996 and moving local fabricating operations to Stockton in 2003. It still maintains a sales lot at the Modesto location.
"Northern California is an extremely important marketing area for us," explains Worth. "Our facilities serve many purposes. They need to be able to accept raw materials, house production and ship direct to customer sites in addition to the retail store."
He adds that overall, their sales and service market has increased. The new facility will have 12 employees, four of them new hires.
Shelley Burcham CEcD, San Joaquin Partnership Vice President of Client Services, assisted Tuff Shed with permitting, incentive analysis, introductions and meeting facilitation.
"She did a wonderful job," says Kirk.
Wes Widmer, a broker with Colliers International represented Tuff Shed in its lease negotiations and John Fondale, a broker with Cornish & Carey represented the owner.
The San Joaquin Partnership would like to thank the staff at the San Joaquin County Community Development Department for its assistance with this client.

State of Sustainability - How does San Joaquin USA Measure up?
Topics ranging from the recycling of food and green waste to air quality were covered in a half- day seminar sponsored by the Greater Stockton Chamber of Commerce "Green Team San Joaquin" yesterday at the Stockton Hilton.
Speakers included Rachel Oster, Director of External Affairs for Recology, a employee-owned full service waste collection and recycling company based in San Francisco. Oster described their successful programs for collecting waste, green waste and recyclables through a city-mandated compliance program for business and residents.
"It takes a community that cares and one that is educated about the environment," said Oster, describing their three- source separation program.
Janice Oldemeyer, owner of Onsite Electronics Recycling in Stockton, described the wide range of non-municipal "recyclers" and degrees of certification.
She cautioned the audience about selecting a reputable electronics waste recycler, with a warning about the stockpile of CRT glass (from older TV's and monitors that contains lead) saying "It will come back to haunt us."
Seyed Sadredin (pictured) Executive Director of the San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District (SJVAPCD) said the Valley is "closer to its (federally mandated) attainment level than ever before."
He said the reduction of fireplace burring during the winter months along with an 80% reduction by Valley businesses since 1980 has contributed to the reduction in pollution.
Sadredin said they are now reaching out to school districts to reduce idling during after-school pick up times which has become a major air quality issue as well as a significant threat to the health of children.
