Ramsey County employees get ZAPped for wellness

ZAP Twin Cities logo Ramsey County has added ZAP Twin Cities to its selection of wellness program offerings for employees. County staff can choose to participate in the ZAP bike commuting program this year to qualify for a health incentive and save on their health care costs in 2014. They can choose the biking (ZAP) program from among other choices, like 10,000 steps, an online weight loss program, and phone coaching on specific health issues.

According to Human Resources Supervisor Sam Howell, the program requirement will be to bike 30 separate days between April and September and will count all trips that are zapped, not just commutes to work. The County has long been a supporter of bicycling for employees - offering loaner bikes for employees to use during breaks and after work, indoor bike parking, and bike workshops - efforts that helped them earn Bike Friendly Business recognition from the League of America Bicyclists.

"We've had a history of being supportive of biking as a mode of transportation," said Howell. "Adding ZAP Twin Cities is a way to add another tool to our wellness toolkit for employees."

Help Metro Transit refine personalized transit planner

Metro Transit recently launched a new customizable, personal transit information center tool My Metro Transit that allows users to arrange transit information on a personal web dashboard. Users can include their Go-To Card balance, most-used NexTrips, favorite routes, frequent trip plans, real-time MnDOT traffic camera views, local weather, and Metro Transit Twitter and Facebook feeds.

This new feature is in the testing/evaluation phase, so users are encouraged to create their own dashboard and send feedback about the service to Metro Transit. Log on to create your own transit information center.
