This week's spotlight is on Chisholm Trail High School's lead custodian, Bea Burgess.

Burgess has been working at EMS ISD for 19 years and has been named District Auxiliary Professional of the Year four times.

"Bea is the epitome of a leader," said Dr. Dana Barnes, CTHS principal. "She is a member of our Ranger family and she's absolutely amazing. She's always helping, teaching, and rewarding others and she always puts others before herself. I am blessed to work with such a wonderful and caring person."

EMS ISD introduces new historical enrichment contest: 'Passport to Our Community'

The district's Social Studies department has introduced a new contest called "Passport to Our Community" for students enrolled in grades 3-8.

Part of the local history enrichment curriculum, the contest was created to showcase the local community and the proud history of our district. All "Passport to Our Community" participants will receive a passport with specific locations that lead to different historical markers throughout the district. Each location will have answers to the questions asked on the community passport.

"The Passport activity is a great way for our students to experience Social Studies outside of the classroom," said Debbie Diffie, Social Studies and AVID coordinator. "Focusing on our local community provides students an opportunity to connect with individuals and events that have impacted our school district and community."

Though the contest is optional, teachers are encouraging students and parents to participate in discovering what the City of Saginaw and the surrounding areas have to offer.

A few of the historical markers to be visited include:
  • Hick's Field - Training site for pilots during both World War I and II
  • Eagle Mountain Park
  • Saginaw Elementary
  • Chisholm Trail Marker
  • Willow Creek Park
  • Saginaw Cemetery
The contest is currently underway and will run through Friday, November 11. Campus winners will be determined based on the number of completed passports received compared to the number of individual enrollments.

Be sure to lookout for our participants as they travel across the City of Saginaw!

It's time to vote!
Every vote counts

Early voting is available now through Friday, November 4, in Building six (training room) at the Administraiton Complex.
