Eagle Mountain-Saginaw ISD Campus Connection

This week's spotlight is on Prairie Vista Middle School eighth grade teacher Alexandria Wilkerson.

Wilkerson is known for her ability to engage students and lead them to academic success. Last year, Wilkerson was recognized at PVMS for her students' top testing performances.

"Alexandria is an amazing teacher," said Dr. Anna King, Prairie Vista Middle School principal. "She's only been teaching for three years and already her students hold the highest science test scores in the district. We are proud to have her as part of our team."

District Highlights

NBC's 'The Voice' star stops by Remington Point during his hometown visit

On Friday, October 7, students and staff from Remington Point Elementary School gathered for a fun visit from "The Voice" contestant Austin Allsup, who stopped by their school as part of his hometown visit.

Allsup was greeted by the CTHS cheerleaders and more than 20 RPE students who stood outside chanting and waving signs. He was then escorted into the gym by the CTHS drum line, where he performed two songs for his youngest fans.

"Remington Point was thrilled to host Austin Allsup as he shared his musical talent with the students, staff, and parents," said Chaney Curran, Remington Point Elementary principal. "I am grateful to Dr. Barnes and the CTHS cheerleaders, drum line, and Ranch Hands for their added excitement and to the district for supporting this event. What a fun experience for our students and staff!"

Austin, who is now a member of #TeamBlake, grew up in the Fort Worth area and is married to an EMS graduate. As a result, he chose Remington Point to be a part of his hometown visit.

We are #emsproud of Austin and wish him the best of luck!

About Our People

Leslie Crook, CTHS tennis coach

CTHS tennis coach Leslie Crook was awarded two state awards on Friday, October 7, at the annual Fort Worth Tennis Association Tennis forum for her outstanding coaching services and tennis program.

Crook took home the 2016 High School All Star No Cut Coach of the Year Award and the 2016 USTA Texas Youth Program of the Year Award for her newly introduced program, the EMS Tennis Academy.

"Coach Crook's passion and enthusiasm for the game of tennis is evident in all that she does for our athletes," said Brent Barker, EMS ISD Athletic Director. "Our athletics department would like to join the district in congratulating her, along with the EMS Tennis Academy, in receiving this honor."

As an award recipient, Crook will be featured in the USTA Texas magazine, website, and social media outlets. She also will receive an automatic nomination for the USTA national award.

In 2015, Crook began the EMS Tennis Academy, a program where young athletes can learn the game of tennis through instruction and fun-filled games. The academy provides free lessons for students in grades second through sixth from October to December and February to May, and averages more than 200 student athletes a week.

Crook also provides free training for students in grades 7-12 from September to May.

"My hope is that our free tennis programs will inspire more children to play tennis throughout their academic career," Crook said.

Congratulations Coach. We are #emsproud!
