Greetings!
"Yesterday's the past, tomorrow's the future, but today is a gift. That's why it's called the present."
Bil Keane
A BIG SHOUT OUT to DEB FLEMING! For the past several months she has made beautiful and tended to our flower pots and the Winter greenery that she put out this month is absolutely lovely. She is one of our dear customer family, and she volunteered to be the one who makes sure that the pots are full of living plants, which have water and whatever else they may need, which makes me happy to no end. My black thumb has tortured many beautiful plants over the years and I am so grateful to Deb for her care for our flora, and for us!
I want to encourage all of us to take a few moments each day to breathe in whatever is happening right then. To be as completely present in whatever moment you choose, even if only long enough to take a deep breath. It will help us to reduce stress, stay healthier, think more clearly, express ourselves more authentically, and enjoy our moments more fully, which is so precious as time seems to fly by more quickly all the time.
Whether you celebrate Hanukkah, Solstice, Christmas, the New Year, birthdays, anniversaries, or the simplicity of each day, this time of year can be overwhelming for many reasons. Give the gift of presence to your self, and the experience of your presence will be the best present you will have to offer those you love in the world.
I want to thank you and our team for being a very special part of our holiday traditions and allowing us to be even a small part of yours. It really does mean the world to us!
We can't wait to see you here!
~Monica

"I will not play tug o' war. I'd rather play hug o' war. Where everyone hugs instead of tugs, Where everyone giggles and rolls on the rug, Where everyone kisses, and everyone grins, and everyone cuddles, and everyone wins."

First Annual Post-Holiday Swap Meet!
Saturday, January 2nd, 2016 Do you have wrapping paper or holiday decorations you want to swap out for a fresh look? Gifts that you don't need or already had? The need to get rid of some old things to make room for the new? Or maybe you just need to get out of the house after a long week of relatives and celebrations! Gather everything up and come to Monica's on Saturday January 2. Show up any time to swap out whatever you bring for something 'new' that others will bring, though of course the earlier you arrive the better your chances for having more options. The exchange will be in our upstairs seating area, with the cafe open downstairs. Any items left at the end of the day will be donated to local charities such as Taking It To The Streets, YWCA, food banks, etc. It will be so much fun!
****************************
Monica's will be CLOSED

at 5 pm on Dec 31
& all day January 1
and Monica's will be OPEN:
normal hours through December 23, then
8 am-5 pm weekdays, 8-4 Saturdays, until mid-January, or until everyone comes out of hibernation and business picks up, whichever comes first!
Also happening in our community:
Local Author Peter Stockwell will debut the 3rd book in his 'Motive' collection: Friday December 18, 5-7, at St Antony of Egypt Episcopal Church, 10239 Old Frontier Road, Silverdale. Purchase his signed books here if you can't make the signing!
Monday December 21: Happy Birthday Alfred! We love you!!! Lighted Boat Parade in Dyes InletSaturday December 19 They should hit Waterfront Park close to 8:44 pm, though of course we will be able to see them before and after that time as they cruise. Rumor has it that the CK Fire Department is bringing Santa down for the event, though if they get a call or Santa is too pressed for time it may not work out. If the weather is not so terrible I will hand out cocoa in the park, at that time! Give us a call or watch our Facebook posts that day to confirm.

You may be thinking "How can I help?" Here is one small way:
Think Local First & Keep the Cheer Here!
Think about which three independently owned stores you'd miss most if they were gone. Then stop in, say hello, and pick a little something up. That's how they stay around.
If just half the employed U.S. population spent $50 each month in independently owned stores, their purchases would generate 42,629,700,000 dollars in revenue.
For every 100 dollars spent in independently owned stores and restaurants, 68 dollars return to the community through taxes, payroll, and other expenditures. In a national chain, only 43 of those dollars stay here. Spend it online and nothing comes home.
It's all about balance! There is no need to make your life difficult and swear off all big business forever. Support local businesses by simply redirecting to them 50 of those dollars that you were already going to spend each month. And let's face it, most small business owner would be thrilled with any part of that. Giving this important issue a little thought will help keep us all in the business of great community.
After all, everybody needs a little help now and then...
