Greetings!
It's farmer's market season! The song 'It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year' could be written about market season. I attended Poulsbo's opening day and it was a beauty! Sunshine, princesses, farmers, coffee, fermented foods, and much more, all with some great music in the background. I absolutely love seeing all the fresh food at any market. It represents hard work, love at it's finest ability, great potential, and a fine local economy.
Every time I can get to a market I will let you know when and where I am through Twitter, which will also post on our web site, and on our Facebook page. I call this "Meet Me At The Market!" and the first person to find me at any market will win a prize! Anyone who finds me is welcome to join me for a tour of the market to meet our local farmers and food producers, as well as other vendors. It's always fun and we can talk about what to do with the food you purchase there.
I really want to offer an interactive cooking class where we shop at a local market and/or farm store for whatever is in season, then go back and teach you how to cook a meal with whatever we find.
We would end the class by eating the meal together, of course! Would you be interested in a class like that? If so, please send me an email to let me know!
My only obstacle is trying to figure out transportation for 14 people back and forth between whatever markets or farms we visit, and the cafe. Carpooling seems like it may have to be the answer, since renting a bus would make the class far too expensive, and my little Mini Cooper isn't built for 14 people! I am very open to suggestions if you have any.
If you would like to know when all the markets in the area are you can find out on our web site HERE. I hope to see you at the local markets, most of them accept debit, credit and EBT cards, as well as SNAP and WIC vouchers. Check out the market booths to see if they have other perks like the frequent flyer punch card at Poulsbo. And if you ever run across something that you are curious about and have no idea how to prepare, ask the farmer! If all else fails you can always drop me and email or stop by the cafe and ask, I will help in any way I can.
We can't wait to see you here!
~Monica

What's Happening?
Hot Stuff!!
Monthly Fun at Monica's:
ON THE THIRD THURSDAY OF EACH MONTH MONICA'S IS HAVING A COMMUNITY PARTY FOR YOU!
Where other communities have an art walk, we want to offer a different kind of event that is for YOU to have FUN, feel NOURISHED in many ways, and maybe even LEARN something if you want to!
Variety is the spice of life, so each party will be different.
It may feature local art and/or artists, local books and/or authors, local food, cooking, music, wine, beer, games,
profile community members, other businesses, or anything else that strikes our fancy!
These events are a way for us to say 'Thanks!' to you for choosing to spend your time, money and energy with us.
We will give some things away, offer perks that we think you'll enjoy, and even try some new recipes for you to test.
We'll even trade you a cookie for your donations of non-perishable food, toiletries, clothing, household items etc...
and make sure those donations get to the food bank and local homeless outreach programs.
So stop in on the Third Thursday and see what we've got cooking!
APRIL'S PARTY is all about some of our local authors and their books!
