Monica & Mark Downen,

at your service

July 2013
Greetings!
"Live in each season as it passes: breathe the air, drink the drink, taste the fruit."
~Henry David Thoreau

Have I ever mentioned how amazingly lucky we are to be a part of your lives? When I worked for the King County Sheriff's Office as a dispatcher I was certainly a part of people's lives, though this is so much different (and so much better!) Mark and I realized very early on that this was a positive service experience, different from our past jobs which were much more negative. After all, nobody wants to pay to get their car fixed, or to deal with 9-1-1 or the police if they can avoid it. Everybody loves coming into a restaurant and especially a bakery!

It has grown to be so much more than just a restaurant, it is truly a blessed life for us. We have been honored to be be a part of every aspect of your lives: engagements, showers, weddings, baby showers and gender release parties, funerals, birthdays, anniversaries, promotions, relocations, memorials and celebrations of every conceivable type. And on top of that, you invite us into your daily lives as well, stopping in for a bite or a coffee, giving us a 'like' on Facebook, and everything else you can think of.

Thank you so very much for allowing us in and sharing yourselves with us, be it for a minute or for a lifetime. Every one of your celebrations and memorials overwhelms me with love and gratitude. Margaret came in to celebrate turning 100; our Fantastic Fellows club of Al, Gene and Lloyd all celebrated 90-somethings with this June and July; Every Wednesday we get the Split Sisters, No Bun Hons and the Pie-Ladies (you know who  you are) who all brighten our lives to no end. And then there is everyone else, each of you means the world to us and we hope you feel that every time you come in.

We really appreciate you and every moment you choose to spend with us. Thank you, and thank you, and thank you again. We really mean it.

We can't wait to see you here!

~Monica

Friday July 12, 4-6 pm
I have a fun idea up my sleeve for this month that I am excited to share with you: Our wine tasting will be very unique in that we will be playing with (and tasting) Summer Wine Cocktails!

These cocktails are great for any party, lounging in the sun (or the shade, if you're as fair as I am), Sunday Brunch, or any time. They are light and easy and we should all have a few interesting cocktails under our belts.

So join us Friday July 12 and let's have a party!

It's a fabulous way to wind down your week, wind up your weekend, and just generally get your wine on! And the best part is IT DOESN'T COST ANYTHING!

This tasting is an open house, so come as you are, and we would love it even more if you brought some donations for the food bank.

"Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It's not."

~Dr. Seuss

You may be thinking "How can I help?"
Here is one small way:

The Kitsap yWca ALIVE Family Services has an URGENT need for all hygiene items and diapers: soap, lotion, shampoo, conditioner, toothbrushes, toothpaste, pads, tampons, Diapers (Size 4,5,6) and Diaper Wipes.

Donations can be dropped off at Monica's (let us know that you intend them for the ALIVE shelter), or of course you can take them directly to the YWCA Community Center at 905 Pacific Avenue,
Mon-Thurs, 9am to 4pm.
Call 360-479-0522 for additional questions.

After all, everybody needs a little help now and then.
