Greetings!
"Instructions for living a life: Pay attention. Be astonished. Tell about it."
It is too easy to not pay attention; to lose ourselves in the busy day-to-dayness of it all and forget to be astonished; and most of all when we find our awe, we too often skip the part where we should take a moment to share it with those around us, thus perpetuating the ignoring of these all-important instructions for living.
I am astonished daily at, and so very proud of, the amazing individuals that make up our team here at Monica's. I am so grateful to each one of them and honored to be a part of their lives. Every person who has worked here has changed us and hope that we have added to the quality of their lives.
Do you know these special people who I am in awe of? Betuel has worked for us since our first day. He is our right-hand in the back of the house and he also works full time at Azteca, so he never has a full day off of work. He is one of the hardest working people I know.
Sharon has been with us since day one as well, and she balances her dedication to us with her passion for her horses and the life she shares with her wonderful husband. She has the best laugh I know.
Rheycel has been with us for almost 5 years and she has recently finished school and an internship to become a dental hygienist. It has been our pleasure to support her and watch her growth while she has been with us.
Victoria joined our team nearly 4 years ago when she was just 18. She has always impressed me with her great customer care, sense of loyalty and great sense of fun.
Charity started working here a year ago and has been baking for us most of that time. She just turned 18 and it has been my honor to watch her blossoming into a wonderful young woman.
Alycia was part of our original crew and rejoined our team last Fall. I love witnessing the adoration she has for her baby son, and watching her growth from 7 years ago when we first met.
Chelsea came to us this Winter and is a delight to be around. She is making our daily soups and salads delicious, and she is one of the smartest people I know.
Jason joined us a couple of months ago and he is learning the baking, as well as helping up front. He brings a very new energy in and I am grateful to have his refreshing outlook and sense of humor as a part of my day.
Cori is our newest team member and lucky for us she is a very fast learner. She is a natural on our team and I am honored to be getting to know her a little more each day.
And of course there is Mark. My partner, my husband, and my biggest supporter in all things. He says he is 'just in charge of dishes and cookies', but I would not be here and who I am without him.
We have had several special people pass through our kitchen and leave their mark on our business and in our lives. Our team is as vital to our success as each of our customers is, and without them this place would not be here. I always tell them that they are my customers too, and I hope they feel that to their cores.
Monica's Waterfront Bakery & Cafe may have my name on it, but it is really our team who make this place what it is. Maybe I should change the name to 'The Greatest Team Ever's Bakery & Cafe'; that would be more apt.
We can't wait to see you here!
~Monica

Charity's is Sunday June 2, so we will celebrate her favorite daily features on Tuesday June 4. Vicky's is Sunday June 9, so we will celebrate her daily features Friday June 8, and Betuel's is Wednesday June 19!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY! WE LOVE YOU!!
MEET THE WINEMAKER
Friday June 14, 4-6 pm
Taste fabulous wines ...and enjoy light appetizers to go with them. We will be joined by Joe Serka from Olalla Valley Vineyard and Winery. Joe is of Croatian descent and comes from a long line of winemakers. Their wines are made in the "old world" tradition: hand-picked fruits, after fermentation no sulfites are used and the wines are not filtered. The entire process from growing the vines the bottling the wines is all done within the family.
It's a fabulous way to wind down your week, wind up your weekend, and just generally get your wine on! And the best part is IT DOESN'T COST ANYTHING!
This tasting is an open house, so come as you are, and we would love it even more if you brought some donations for the food bank.

| | You may be thinking "How can I help?" Here is one small way:
School's almost out and without ruining the Summer fun to be had, please look ahead to next Fall and our student neighbors in need.
That backpack that is still in decent shape but 'so last year', those outgrown school clothes and leftover supplies that won't be needed next year, are all desperately needed by many children in Kitsap.
Bring your gently used school items and clothing to us and we will get them to those students who cannot afford to buy them and want. . . no, NEED to blend in more than most any other kids out there.
We try to keep it simple so it's easy for you to donate what you no longer need. We will ask this again in August, when you are out shopping for supplies for your own kids, maybe you can afford to get an extra pencil or two for a child in need.
Each of us needs a little help now and then.
