Greetings!
"I wrote a frog haiku. You are reading it right now. I love frogs, do you?"
~ Monica S. Downen
Well hello there! Here we are approaching Spring as quickly as we ever have. Wednesday March 20 is the Vernal Equinox and we will have more than 12 hours between sunrise and sunset, for a brighter outlook, as Spring is so uniquely qualified to bring.
It is the time for planting and pruning, cleaning out and lightening up. I love living in a place where the seasons are as pronounced as they are, and I truly enjoy celebrating each one as we move through the year. Do you do anything to mark the arrival of Spring?
In earlier times, the vernal equinox was considered the beginning of the new year. It has always been an important day to those who work the land because it signifies the beginning of the season of regeneration and growth. We can empathize with the ancients' joy at the resurrection of the sun god from the underworld.
It's spring! The thought makes me want to bathe in flower blossoms and dance bare-footed in freshly-tilled soil... Ok, that may be a bit fantastic, but nonetheless, I cannot wait for the farmer's markets to start! You can see a list of them HERE. See you at the market!
We can't wait to see you here!

"I will not play tug o' war. I'd rather play hug o' war. Where everyone hugs instead of tugs, Where everyone giggles and rolls on the rug, Where everyone kisses, and everyone grins, and everyone cuddles, and everyone wins."

"Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It's not."
~Dr. Seuss
| | You may be thinking "How can I help?" Here is one small way:
Sign up for a life changing appointment today!
This year alone, more than 1.4 million people in the US will be diagnosed with cancer. The number of cancer survivors is now over 11 million here in the United States. However, there is still much work needing to be done to create a world with even more birthdays. In an effort to better understand the causes of cancer and the ways to prevent it, the American Cancer Society's Department of Research is recruiting individuals for Cancer Prevention Study-3 (CPS-3).
What if you could prevent even one family from hearing the words "you have cancer"?
Join the movement for less cancer and more birthdays. Sign up today at www.cps3kitsapcounty.org
Who can join the study?
The study is open to anyone in the United States and Puerto Rico Who is willing to commit to the study long-term which means completing periodic follow up surveys at home for the next 20-30 years, is between 30 and 65 years old, and has never been diagnosed with cancer (not including basal or squamous cell skin cancer)
How can you participate?
The enrollment process involves two steps. One step takes place at a local enrollment event, where you will be asked to read and sign an informed consent form, complete a brief written survey, provide a waist circumference measurement and a small blood sample (similar to a doctor's visit - 7 teaspoons total). The blood sample will be taken by a certified, trained phlebotomist. The other step takes place at home, where you will complete a more detailed survey. This survey will ask information on lifestyle, behavioral, and other factors related to your health. Periodically, you will receive a survey at home to update that information.
What else can you do?
Make sure to bring friends with you when you show up to change the world. And tell everyone you know about this historic opportunity to save lives and fight for every birthday threatened by every cancer in your community. For more information, visit: www.cps3kitsapcounty.org or call 888-604-5888
