Chamber Announces New Arts & Culture Award Program

The Greater Akron Chamber has announced an awards program to recognize member businesses in Summit County for their support of arts and culture. The award will be presented in collaboration with Summit County's new collective of arts organizations and artists, "ArtsNow." "We know that the arts are important to our mission of attracting and retaining the best talent in Greater Akron," said Rebecca Guzy Woodford, Senior Vice President of the Chamber. "This new award allows us the opportunity to recognize the accomplishments of our business community and hopefully inspire other businesses to see how arts and culture can be part of their daily work." Nominations are welcome from all Greater Akron Chamber members, and self-nominations are permitted, said Guzy. ArtsNow, a new nonprofit organization with the mission of advancing arts and culture in Summit County has launched a countywide, interactive website that will feature arts and culture happenings. The website, www.summitlive365, went live October 15, 2015. The Chamber participates in the Business Task Force of ArtsNow, which emerged from the 2014 Summit County Arts & Culture Initiative, funded by the GAR Foundation and the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation. The task force will judge submissions for the award, which will be presented at the Chamber's Board of Directors meeting December 10, 2015, at Firestone Country Club. Dennis Kleidon Paintings On Exhibit at Greater Akron Chamber

 The Greater Akron Chamber is pleased to announce an exhibition of recent paintings by Dennis Kleidon, October 13th through December 31st. The paintings in Waves, Wind & Turbulence, the title of his recent work, are influenced by Kleidon's years as a sailboat racer, ideal for observing the forces of water and wind in nature. His color-rich abstract paintings pair bold strokes with complex detail, where the paint creates 'cross currents' of texture and color. Kleidon's paintings can also be viewed here. Dennis Kleidon served on the Greater Akron Chamber's Board of Directors and Executive Committee and is a past Chairman of the Small Business Council where he has served for over 20 years. Throughout a successful career as a university professor at The University of Akron's Myers School of Art and as the founder and owner of Kleidon & Associates, a marketing communications firm, Kleidon has been a prolific fine artist, drawing on a surprisingly diverse background as a graphic design, architectural illustrator and painter. Kleidon has studios in Akron and Arizona, and his work is currently being shown here and in Scottsdale. He studied art, architecture and graphic design at the University of Illinois, Illinois Wesleyan and Illinois State University. His artwork appears in many public and private collections. The exhibit will be in the gallery area of the Chamber office on the 17th floor of 1 Cascade Plaza in downtown Akron. Make sure you take some time the next time you're at the Chamber offices and view the paintings in the lobby.
