Sustainability logo
The Summit of Sustainability Awards recognize sustainable leadership in businesses and organizations as well as share best practices.

The 2015 application deadline for fourth annual Summit of Sustainability Awards (SOSA) is Wednesday, July 1. The application can be accessed on a Survey Monkey link at www.SummitofSustainability.org. Sustainable experts are also available, to all applying businesses/organizations, who can provide assistance on how to gather valuable sustainable metrics that can be shared with your clients and customers. A company can also be nominated by e-mail to keepakronbeautiful@akronohio.gov.

Categories of possible SOSA winners include: Small Businesses with 25 employees or less, Medium Businesses with 26-249 employees and Large Businesses with 250 employees or more, as well as Nonprofit/Community Organizations and the Public Sector (Government/Schools), any of which have initiated sustainable practices. In addition, beginning last year, the judges have reserved the right to award a medal to individuals or projects that are innovative, within the submitted applications.

SOSA showcases the best examples of commercial energy efficiency, waste reduction, water conservation and green purchasing. Since the 2014 awards ceremony, the SOSA committee more than ever envisions the possibility of a sustainable community throughout Summit County. Through the help of past winners, this program has shared individual videos on the sustainable efforts for each of these responsible environmental stewards - part of their winner's prize - in which we all reap the benefits through education.

10th Annual National Hamburger Festival - August 8 & 9, 2015
Hamburger Festival logo
Employee/Customer Appreciation Package Supporting Akron Children's Hospital

Every year, hamburger afficionados converge on Akron, Ohio for a real smorgasbord. The National Hamburger Festival serves as the national celebration of the hamburger. Each year over 20,000 hamburger fans have enjoyed family fun, great entertainment and one of the largest assortments of hamburgers ever assembled in one place. The Food Network filmed the festival for a segment on their hit show "Unwrapped". Local media, including television, radio and print are always on-site for the annual event. The citizens of Ohio have embraced the festival with open arms making the event one of Ohio's favorite food festivals.

The festival is held at historic Lock 3 Park in beautiful downtown Akron. The festival raises money each year for one of Akron's favorite charities, the Akron Children's Hospital. Twenty restaurants will serve up over 50 different styles of burgers to hamburger connoisseurs from northeast Ohio and beyond. Enjoy family fun and entertainment with live music all weekend long. Crazy contests include the Ohio Hamburger Eating Championship, a burger cook-off, Miss Hamburger Pageant, a hamburger challenge between the Akron Fire Department and Akron Police, and even a bobbing for hamburgers contest in a kiddie pool full of ketchup. The festival provides much civic pride for the City of Akron as well as its citizens as they stake claim to the invention of the hamburger. So join us in celebrating Akron's Food Icon while also supporting Akron Children's Hospital.
