Another Billion BackBuilding on the momentum of last year's Billion Back plan, "Another Billion Back" proposes to inject an additional $1 billion into Ohio's economy while making an unprecedented commitment to safe workplaces and a healthy, productive workforce. The proposal:
- Provides a one-time rebate of $1 billion for private employers and public-taxing districts.
- Increases BWC's commitment to safety by up to $35 million over the next two years.
- Creates several new safety initiatives that leverage BWC's occupational health and safety expertise to create innovative solutions for improving the safety, health and wellness of Ohio's workforce.
During its August meeting, the BWC Board of Directors discussed the proposal to extend a $1 billion rebate for private employers and public-taxing districts paying into Ohio's workers' compensation system. To read more, click here.

The Summit of Sustainability Awards recognize and celebrate businesses and nonprofits in Summit County who have raised the bar for sustainability. This is the third year for the county-wide awards program that showcases the best examples of commercial energy efficiency, waste reduction, water conservation and green purchasing. The panel of five esteemed judges selected the following 2014 Summit of Sustainability Award winners: - Small Companies with 25 or less employees: Salsbury-Schweyer, Inc.
- Large Companies with 250 employees or more: Summa Health System
- Tie in the category of Nonprofit/Community: Goodwill Industries of Akron, Ohio, Inc. and St. Hilary Parish and School
- Public Sector (Governmental/Schools): Old Trail School
This year, for the first time, the judges are giving two Sustainability Medals to recognize specific sustainable activities, outlined in their applications, conducted by Habitat for Humanity of Summit County and OMNOVA Solutions, Inc. The awards program will reveal best sustainable business practices going on within our community and will showcase the award and medal winners for others to emulate. Plan to attend the breakfast to support the five winners and view the videos created to showcase how these award winning organizations are setting the sustainability bar.
