2014 State of the City Address by Akron Mayor Don Plusquellic

Mayor Plusquellic Sponsored by the Greater Akron Chamber, Rotary Club of Akron, Kiwanis Club of Akron and Akron Press Club and Hosted by the Akron Roundtable

In this annual event, the Honorable Mayor Donald L. Plusquellic presents the municipal achievements of 2013 and offers a glimpse into the future by highlighting some upcoming projects for 2014.

In 2011, Plusquellic was re-elected to a seventh term and this year began his 28th year as Mayor of the City of Akron in January 2014. The city's longest-serving mayor is a life-long resident of Akron. He became the 59th Mayor of Akron in January 1987, after serving with distinction for 13 years on Akron City Council, including three years as President from 1984-1987. Citizens of Ward 9 first elected him to Council as their representative in 1973, when he was 24 years old.

Mayor Plusquellic has devoted more than 40 years to public service in a career highlighted by great leadership successes locally and nationally. A graduate of Akron's Kenmore High School, Plusquellic attended the University of Pittsburgh School of Engineering and graduated from Bowling Green State University School of Business. He earned his J.D. from The University of Akron School of Law. Plusquellic has won countless local and national awards; most recently he was honored for his support of the arts and culture, receiving the National 2014 Public Leadership in the Arts Award.

Chamber Energy Solutions (CES) Electric & Gas Reports

Chamber Energy Solutions CES Electric Report
Chamber Energy Solutions wants to keep Chamber members updated on the current electric market conditions which may impact your future electric costs. You may have heard in the news that Northern Ohio generators are shutting down a portion of their coal-powered generation capacity to comply with EPA regulations. This capacity limitation in AEP Ohio, DP&L, Duke Ohio, and FirstEnergy Corp. will negatively affect your electric rates over the next couple of years by increasing the generation capacity charges.

CES Natural Gas Report

Despite winter's strong grip on the majority of the country, traders may have found the light at the end of the tunnel and now have the market trading below the $4.75 level. Over the last month, pricing for March had been anywhere from $0.30 to $1.00+ higher than pricing for April. The difference in pricing between April (the new prompt month) and May is now only $0.07.

Chamber Energy Solutions Winter Pricing

The chart below details the commodity pricing that CES has been able to provide their customers this winter compared to what the natural gas market settled at.

These are all factors to keep in mind when reviewing your natural gas bills and as you budget for next year. If you are not already in the Chamber Energy Solutions benefit program, please contact Debbie Richmond at (330) 237-1228 to learn more about the CES program and how you can better manage your natural gas costs.
