YPN Spotlight Series

We've all heard the stereotypes about YP's: self-centered, entitled, fickle, etc., etc. Well, Akron area YP's are proving those stereotypes wrong every day by making major contributions to the community and to local businesses, from significant volunteer work to innovative business practices. The YPN developed the Spotlight Series as a way to showcase (ok, maybe brag a little) the stellar work YP's are doing right here in Greater Akron.

A new YP will be featured each month and will be asked a series of questions. If you are interested in being featured,
contact Sarah Vojtek at vojtek@greaterakronchamber.org.

March Feature: Leanne Graham, Executive Director, Victim Assistance Program

What's a typical day look like for you?

One perk of my job is knowing that there are no "typical days". I usually have a task or a project I deem a priority and plan to accomplish that day. However, new priorities often arise as I read and respond to my 60 or so e-mails throughout the day. Typically, I only have half of a day to work on tasks or projects because the other half is spent in meetings and responding to e-mails. Although spending time in meetings seems consuming, it is beneficial. Meetings with community leaders and my staff ensure that our services stay above par. Other than that, my days have recently consisted of writing grant and foundation requests, restructuring the table of organization due to resignations, and reviewing the agency's statistics to ensure we are meeting the community's needs.

What is the most rewarding professional experience you have had? The most rewarding professional experience I have had is one that I live every day. As the first executive director to take over a 40 year old organization after its founder stepped down, I feel honored and humbled. When I enter our main entrance and see advocates excited about being at work, I feel grateful as I know each victim who walks through our doors will be in good hands.
