Join the Greater Akron Chamber's Small Business Council as they honor the accomplishments of local businesses with the 2013 Excellence in Business Awards. This award recognizes a business that demonstrates outstanding performance, growth, staying power, innovation, and provides leadership in the community.
  
The Chamber is excited to announce the following companies have been named 2013 Excellence in Business Award recipients:

ACG Akron Network Welcomes Tom Strauss

Thomas J. Strauss joined Summa Health System in 1999 after many years with Meridia Health Services, Baxter Health Corp. and Allegheny General Hospital.  In his current position as President and CEO of Summa Health System, he has "led the charge" to identify a unique partner that would provide synergies, like cultures and a goal of changing how healthcare is delivered in the USA.  Summa found that partner in Cincinnati's Catholic Health Partners partnership announced last month.
  
A pharmacist by trade, Strauss earned his doctorate in pharmacy from Duquesne and completed his residency at Mercy Hospital.  His position of leadership in the Akron community makes him the perfect choice to  launch the new ACG Akron Network.

Akron Autism 5k and Walk
  
Let's Face Autism Together! Autism Society GA
 
The Autism Society of Greater Akron is holding its third annual Akron's Autism 5k and Walk on Saturday, June 15, 2013, at Lock 3 in downtown Akron (200 S. Main Street, next to the Civic Theater).  This event is the Autism Society of Greater Akron's premier fundraising and autism awareness event.

 

Participants can find out more information and register at .  Walkers are free, and runners are $25. Runners receive a t-shirt and goodie bag with registration fee.  Walk registrants who raise $35 receive autism awareness shoelaces; registrants who raise $50 receive a t-shirt.  Prizes for top fundraisers include an iPad mini, Kindle Fire and a Nook. The top team will receive a suite for twenty people at an Akron Aeros game. All are encouraged to raise money to support local programs and services for individuals with autism and their families. The 5k run is at 8:30 a.m., and the walk kicks off at 9:00 a.m.  Participants will also enjoy an Autism Vendors Fair, live entertainment and activities for the children and families.  Sandwiches will be provided by SUBWAY, fruit by Giant-Eagle and water by EarthFare.

 

Sponsors include Presenting Sponsor Bevan and Associates, and also Summit Academy, Chester Law Group, CrossFit Akron, Kent State University, Language Learning Associates, Summit County Board of Developmental Disabilities, SUPER Learning Center and Total Education Solutions.

 

The Autism Society of Greater Akron is part of the Autism Society of Ohio. Its programs and services include family support activities, raising awareness, informing the community, donating educational items to area schools, advocating for better support and programs, and connecting families and professionals to area resources.  All money raised here stays here for local programs and services. One in 50 children has an autism spectrum diagnosis, an increase from one in 150 in the year 2000.
