Join the YPN and Torchbearers Green & Clean Day Team!
About Green & Clean Day
On the first Friday of May each year, Downtown Akron is overrun with volunteers clad in "safety green" shirts putting a deep clean on the Downtown footprint. Green & Clean projects focus on making a vibrant impact, going beyond the regular services of the Downtown Akron Partnership's Clean Team. The goal of the event is to engage the community in making our Downtown "vibrant and valuable." During the Downtown Green & Clean event, business employees and community members form teams and do projects around their own Downtown property or are assigned tasks within the district. Each team member receives a t-shirt, goodie bag and a lunch celebration. Green & Clean Day is a part of Keep Akron Beautiful's Clean Up Akron Week/Great American Cleanup™.
This year, as young professionals, let's show our support of a clean, green and sustainable community by volunteering to represent the YPN/Torchbearers Green & Clean team! All YP volunteers will be working together on a mulching project in the northside area. The YP volunteers will work from 1 to 4 p.m. with a Happy Hour to follow. If you just want to volunteer on the team but cannot make it to the Happy Hour, that's ok too! Let's work together to help make this community project a success!

The YPN/Torchbearers Team Agenda:
Noon - Lunch at Lock 3 for all volunteers (Lunch is provided by DAP)
1 to 4 p.m. - Mulching Project
4:30 p.m. - Happy Hour (Appetizers will be included. Details to follow.)

Wadsworth Young Professionals (WYP) Host Guest Bartending Fundraiser
WYP is extending the invitation to all of the regional YP groups to join them at Beef O' Brady's in Wadsworth on May 8 to benefit a great cause and to network with the other YP organizations in the area. Tips given to the guest bartenders as well as 20% of the non-alcoholic beverage proceeds will be donated to the YMCA Partners With Youth Campaign. This is an annual fundraiser that provides YMCA memberships to local families who do not have the means to join due to a sudden loss of income or a disability. In addition, the money raised creates scholarships for less-fortunate children in our community to attend Camp Y-Noah in the summer and participate in personal development programs such as the YMCA teen leadership program.
Sign up here to participate in a fun evening that supports a very worthy cause!
Guest Bartenders:
Angela Presutti, Young Professionals Network

YPN Spotlight Series
We've all heard the stereotypes about YPs: self-centered, entitled, fickle, etc., etc. Well, Akron area YPs are proving those stereotypes wrong every day by making major contributions to the community and to local businesses, from significant volunteer work to innovative business practices. The YPN developed the Spotlight Series as a way to showcase (ok, maybe brag a little) the stellar work YPs are doing right here in Greater Akron.
A new YP will be featured each month and will be asked a series of questions. If you are interested in being featured, contact Angela Presutti at presutti@greaterakronchamber.org.
April Feature: Katie Kline, Resource Development Associate, Habitat for Humanity of Summit County
What's a typical day look like for you? My typical day includes calling local businesses to set up appointments to meet with them and discuss the different ways to get involved with Habitat for Humanity of Summit County. I have at least one meeting most days. I also work on our annual fundraisers throughout the year.
Do you volunteer? If so, what organizations? I sit on the Board of Emerging Leaders for Akron Children's Hospital. I volunteer with this group at different events throughout the year.

Looking to Plug into the Community? Join a YPN Crew Today!
A crew is just another name for committee. The YPN has three crews that focus on our key initiatives: Next Generation Leadership, Marketing the Region and Community Engagement. Each Crew works smart to bring valuable, interesting and unique opportunities for YPs from all professions and backgrounds.
Each Crew meets once a month for about an hour. If you are interested in joining a Crew or would just like to attend a meeting, email Angela Presutti at presutti@greaterakronchamber.org.
