| Chamber's Small Business Council's Excellence in Business Awards Breakfast | |
Join the Greater Akron Chamber's Small Business Council as they honor the accomplishments of local businesses with the 2013 Excellence in Business Awards. This award recognizes a business that demonstrates outstanding performance, growth, staying power, innovation, and provides leadership in the community. New this year, one business will also be honored as an emerging business.
In addition to honoring local businesses, the 2013 Excellence in Business Awards will include keynote speaker, Harvey Nelson, Main Street Muffins (now known as Main Street Gourmet). Nelson and his partner, Steve Marks, founded Main Street Gourmet, a manufacturer of gourmet frozen bakery products with sales throughout the United States.
Corporate tables of eight (8) are available for $250. The price includes table signage, recognition in the event program and PowerPoint presentation.

| Leadership Akron Now Accepting Applications for 2013-2014 |
 Leadership Akron is now accepting applications for their 2013-2014 class. The signature program empowers participants to see beyond their own spheres to the greater good of the community through involvement and leadership. It offers an intensive study of community issues and interaction with prominent decision-makers, inspiring participants to expand their effectiveness as community leaders. Each year, the program begins with a mandatory two-day opening retreat. After the retreat, participants spend one full day every month focusing on a certain aspect of their community. Focus areas include: social services, business, education, the arts, health and others.
Individuals must work or live in Summit County in order to apply. Application and additional materials can be found on the Leadership Akron website at www.leadershipakron.org. The deadline for submission of applications is Monday, April 29, 2013.

CareWorks Consultants Group Retrospective Program Deadline is April 26 CareWorks Consultants, Inc. (CCI) offers a comprehensive, full-service group retrospective rating program. Their unique approach to safety consultation and cost control initiatives fosters an environment where their group retrospective program participants successfully obtain the benefits of participating in the program. As your advocate, they will continually provide you the information necessary to succeed. As indicated in your enrollment documents, the required key components to obtaining the program goals and premium savings are: - Provide salary continuation to minimize claims costs including reserves;
- Safety program development;
- Provide transitional duty to injured workers;
- Aggressively settle claims when feasible;
- Work with your safety consultant;
- Timely premium payments made to BWC; and
- Contact your CCI claims examiner immediately upon the occurrence of any work-related injury or accident for advice on all claims-related filings.
CCI will provide claims administration services, hearing representation and representation in risk-related matters before the Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation (BWC) and the Ohio Industrial Commission. You will also receive periodic status updates for your company individually and for the group. | ACG Akron Network Welcomes Tom Strauss | |

Thomas J. Strauss joined Summa Health System in 1999 after many years with Meridia Health Services, Baxter Health Corp. and Allegheny General Hospital. In his current position as President and CEO of Summa Health System, he has "led the charge" to identify a unique partner that would provide synergies, like cultures and a goal of changing how healthcare is delivered in the USA. Summa found that partner in Cincinnati's Catholic Health Partners partnership announced last month.
A pharmacist by trade, Strauss earned his doctorate in pharmacy from Duquesne and completed his residency at Mercy Hospital. His position of leadership in the Akron community makes him the perfect choice to launch the new ACG Akron Network.
