2012-2013 Greater Akron Relocation Guide and YP Roadmap Published |
We are pleased to present Experience Greater Akron, the Greater Akron Chamber's 2012-2013 relocation guide for those relocating from around the world or across town, and the Chamber's YP Roadmap, a must-have guide for young professionals and an essential resource for employers looking to attract and retain talent.
We encourage you to use both publications as references for your organization and as employee recruitment tools. The printed and interactive web version of the relocation guide promotes Greater Akron to companies, individuals and families relocating to the region. It also highlights the talented people who have moved here and the outstanding amenities that make our region one of the best places to live, work and play. We're sure you'll enjoy the new feature, "99 Reasons We Love Greater Akron," an informative and fun read about what makes the region famous.
The printed and interactive web version of the YP Roadmap features the profiles of thirty young professionals who were honored on September 24 at the 6th annual "30 for the Future" awards celebration. These recipients were chosen for their stellar accomplishments in their industries and in the Greater Akron community. InterChez Logistics Systems provides discounts on transportation and logistics services.
These benefits enhance the Chamber's current money-saving benefits including SummaCare and Worker's Compensation. Companies who want to participate can find out more at www.greaterakronchamber.org and/or contact Debbie Richmond, Manager, Benefits & Administration, at (330) 237-1228.
Winter Natural Gas Forecast from Chamber Energy Solutions (CES) While natural gas prices remain fairly low, the average consumer can expect their monthly bill to increase by 5-15 cents per CCF when compared to last winter. Underground storage, which will be used for winter heating months has set an all-time high, meaning there should be sufficient supply to meet the winter demand. However, the expectations of near normal winter temperatures have kept the prices from dropping to the levels seen one year ago. These factors and current market conditions lead to prices that have the potential to be upwards of 24% higher when compared to last winter. Due to the normal winter temperatures that are expected, the consumer will also most likely see an increase in their total bill, due to an increase in usage from last winter to this winter. The take-away from all of this is to remember that last winter was extremely warm and gas was plentiful. The probability of this winter being the same is slim, so budget appropriately! CES will continue to monitor the natural gas market and manage our clients pricing by purchasing gas when pricing is more advantageous. Even with the current low prices for gas, CES may be able to help you save money. For more information about the CES program, please contact contact Debbie Richmond at (330) 237-1228 or richmond@greaterakronchamber.org. |

Unemployment Contribution Rate Determination Form Distributed in November
The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services (ODJFS) will be sending employers their 2013 Contribution Rate Determination form later in November. This form notifies employers of their unemployment tax rate for the upcoming year. A review of this document is important and the following action should be taken if applicable to your account:
- Appeal the tax rate if there are discrepancies in any information used to determine this rate. ODJFS allows employers 30 days from the mailing date of the tax notification to submit their appeal.
- Review your option to "buy down" this rate by making a voluntary contribution by December 31, 2012. A voluntary contribution calculation should be completed to determine if there is a savings to your business at the lower rate.
- Commonly owned businesses can apply for a "joint rate" if this provides savings opportunities to your businesses. A common rate study should be completed before making this decision and the request submitted to ODJFS by December 31, 2012.
CCI offers unemployment assistance with tax rate matters in addition to claims, benefit charges and hearing management. The experienced unemployment team at CCI can assist your business to help prevent overcharging by ODJFS and mitigate costs on any unemployment claims. To learn more about their unemployment cost control program, contact Kammy Staton at (800) 837-3200 ext. 7165 or (614) 526-7165.
