Shade Tree Interiors

March 2013

The countdown is on for Spring and we are working hard on preparations for the upcoming Home & Garden Show at the Reading Expo Center on March 15-17.  In addition to our regular booth, we were awarded a 20' X 20' space to design and decorate.  We will be given a blank canvas of drywall in which we will tranform into a Manhattan Loft style bedroom.  John Ross, our on-staff interior designer, has spearheaded this project and will be in the booth during the show.  Be sure to meet him and see this beautiful bedroom.  In addition, we will be doing a drawing for one Comfortex window treatment so be sure to stop by and enter.  We look forward to seeing you there!

Quick Change Artist

Unless you are blessed enough to be living in an area that has continuous good weather, it is typically right around March and April that you can really begin to feel a bit of "cabin fever" in your own home.  We can help you get a jump on that cooped up feeling!

Those four wall of yours can start to feel a bit claustrophobic, and you know that some change will do you good.  For a quick change of your own, here are a few tips you might want to try:

Add or Remove Drapery Tiebacks

Many of our homes today have long drapes that go all the way to the floor, often even "puddling" on the floor for a dramatic look.  If your current drapes don't have a tieback and they fall straight to the floor, add a contrasting tieback for a quick and easy change.  Or do the opposite... remove tiebacks from pulled back drapes and just let them hang down.

Add a Cornice or Valance

If you do currently have drapes - what do you have above the drapes?  Now might be a good time to consider a valance or a cornice to extend across your window frame and add a whole new element, look and feel to your room.  And speaking of the feel of your room....

Raise the Room
Updating the look - and more importantly the feel - of your home is always a good mood lifter and might be just the change you need right now.  The question for you is - just where are your curtain rods and valances hanging?

For your quick change - raise those treatments!  Often I install treatments a mere 2" below the crown molding in a room.  If you want to raise your roof - raise your treatments!

Simply Add Window Treatments

Take a look around your rooms at all of the windows you have.  Are you missing something?  For years some have considered window treatments "too much" or "too fussy".  Maybe in your grandparents home, but not in homes today.  Today, window treatments are just another way to express your style.  They can be formal, casual, modern, classic - you name it, a window treatment can do it.  Nothing says "ah, this room is finished!" like a window treatment made just for you.

These are just a handful of ideas to help you get your creative juices flowing. Don't forget that anything that you want to do with your rooms that involves fabric - from designing and constructing drapes to a whole bedroom of bedding and throws - we can help.  Just give us a call and let's see how we can make some changes for you!
